Ray advises Len to be more boring to put Marj Griffin off. Effie moves from No. 4 to No. 1. Basil Griffin dumps Marj's monkey Marlon onto Len. Elsie and Maggie realise they've underestimated Marj. Marj is horrified when Ray turns up with two little boys and introduces them as Len's children. She packs and leaves but forgets to take Marlon. Billy Walker returns to the Street with a Chinese girlfriend, Jasmine Choong.

The Walkers are delighted to see Billy. Gordon returns from visiting Concepta in Ireland and leaves Lucille there. Annie isn't keen on Jasmine. She asks Emily to share her room with her but hopes she won't agree. Dickie is put out when Audrey is courted by customer Richard Matthews. Emily invites Jasmine to share her room. Audrey is embarrassed when Dickie is rude to Richard. Annie is against Jasmine because she's Chinese.

Audrey assures Dickie she's not interested in Richard Matthews. Richard has given them tickets to the cinema. Dickie has to work so Gordon agrees to take Audrey. Annie takes to her bed. He gives her a wad of notes to keep quiet. Ena discovers Minnie has disappeared, leaving a note asking her to look after Sunny Jim. Annie approves of Gordon now he is an accountant. Ena returns the money to Dave and tells him Minnie has disappeared.

The police tell Ena that Minnie is in hospital suffering from exposure after sleeping out for two nights on a park bench. Minnie begs the nurses not to tell anyone where she is. Ena visits Minnie but Minnie tells her to go away. Lucille is annoyed that Gordon is being off with her. Minnie tells Ena she ran away because she didn't like the unpleasantness Ena was stirring up. Dave visits Minnie and tells her he's going to put a limit on her bets. Gordon tells Maggie he doesn't want to marry Lucille.

Gordon sees Lucille in her wedding dress. She tells him she loves him. He tells her that he can't marry her. Annie is furious with Gordon. She is determined that Gordon will marry Lucille. Effie plans to decorate No. 1 as a surprise for Albert. Annie accuses Maggie of pushing Gordon into jilting Lucille. When Ken complains about Val's cooking she tells him to do it himself.

Lucille gives up "The Pink Posy" to work at the Betting Shop. Albert hates Effie's decorations. Elsie feels upset when Dave plans to take another woman out to the dogs. Elsie gets a phone call from a Lillian Smith telling her Dave is married - to her.

Val confides in Elsie that the doctor says she's in need of a knee operation. Ray and Lucille see Dickie at the arcade. Annie covers the pub in old Lancashire memorabilia. Elsie tells Ken about Val's knee. Annie installs clogs and miners' lamps. Lucille tells Audrey of Dickie's job. Dickie has to face up to rough customers. Jack upsets Annie by getting in clog dancers.

Hilda and Ray gang up on Stan to get him working more. Ken wants Val to have a private operation. Audrey gets upset as Dickie doesn't mention the arcade. Elsie takes Audrey to the arcade to see Dickie. Ken sells his car. Dickie wins Audrey over by giving her the £25. Val is angry when Ken invites her mother, Edith Tatlock, to stay over the operation period.

Val goes into hospital. Edith Tatlock arrives and she approves of the maisonette. Ray gets Connie Robinson to pose as a pub landlady and ropes Ena and Elsie in to con Annie into starting an organist and hotpot. Annie suspects Connie is a fake and makes everyone pay half a crown for the salty hotpots. Edith feels that the Street is not right for the Barlows.

Ena helps out in the shop with Val in hospital. Audrey starts spending too much. Ena tells Dickie that dignity is more important than money. Audrey spends over £200 on hire purchase. Brewery rep Mr Bracegirdle gets drunk and flirts with Annie. Jack throws him out.

Audrey celebrates her eighteenth birthday. Dickie buys her a mod watch. Edith offers Ken financial help towards a house. Val returns from hospital. Ray buys Audrey her first legal drink in the Rovers. Edith takes the Barlows round a show house. Val doesn't want to leave the Street, no matter what plans Edith has for the executive family. Dickie is too frightened to go to work. He tells Ray how Eddie Goulden wants him to fix the machines for him. Annie gets depressed as she receives no post from the Brewery. Dickie decides to fix the machines for Eddie Goulden. Emily tells Ray that Len is drawing more money than usual on expenses. The Ogdens plan a Bank Holiday bring-a-bottle party. Elsie persuades Dickie to stick firm with the promise of Ray as a heavy. The rain ruins Stan's barbeque. Bill Blakeley gives Dickie the sack because he's an easy touch.

Edith is too much for Val to cope with. Dickie gets a job on a building site, labouring for £14 a week. Elsie makes the Flemings realise there's no future in it. Annie returns from Majorca with Douglas Cresswell of Newton and Ridley. Annie explains to Jack that she was helping Douglas out at the Brewery hotel, and that was what was in the letter. Elsie returns to the Street but refuses to speak to Len. Annie tells Jack of Douglas' proposal for them to go and live in Majorca running a pub. They have two weeks to decide. Annie is furious with Ena and Emily, and plays along. Ray gets the Brewery deal and tells Lucille he wants it for himself, not Len. Len hears about the contract and is delighted.
