Des presents a special highlights package of some of his favourite guests from the show, with clips including Freddie Starr, Bob Monkhouse and Karen Kay.

After losing the "live" status of his show the previous year, Des once again tries his luck by opening a new series with Freddie Starr. In amongst his usual mayhem - including soaking Des - Freddie gets to showcase his singing skills.

A bittersweet episode, as Irene Handl chats with Des after a hospital visit, and would pass away the following month after the show aired. Among the other guests are Rod Hull, Jim Bowen, Hilary O'Neill, Tony Christie and Vince Hill.

Don McLean performs "Vincent", while Des's other guests are Mel Brooks, Lulu, Maggie Moone, David Lee and Roger De Courcey with his pal, Nookie Bear.

Max Bygraves imagines what it would be like to be interviewed by Des in the year 2000, and both men perform a tribute melody to Al Jolson. Also appearing are guests including Gloria Hunniford, Mick Miller and Chas 'n' Dave.

Des suffers a breakdown in transmission as he hosts a show that includes guests Fiona Fullerton, Joe Longthorne, Shakin' Stevens, jockey Steve Cauthen, comedian Adrian Walsh and Ray Alan with Lord Charles.

With Nigel Havers, Richard Clayderman, Jack Douglas, Bobby Davro and the Shadows.

Guests include Vera Lynn, Engelbert Humperdinck, Henri Mancini and George Carl.

Des is joined by Larry Grayson, Anita Dobson, Vince Hill, Lonnie Donegan and Derek Jameson.

With guests including Julie Goodyear and singing impressionist Bob Anderson.

With Englebert Humperdinck, Paul Nicholas and Alison Moyet.

The show once more gets chance to go live, in a somewhat chaotic sing song to celebrate the chimes of New Year. Des is joined by guests including Cannon and Ball, while on the Thames is Angela Rippon, chatting to a variety of stars.

Des ends his eleventh series with guests including Karen Kay.
