In 1996, police have been called to a murder scene at a two-acre estate in Atherton, California. They immediately draw parallels to another unsolved murder.

Don and Mary Ann Duvardo is found dead in their home in what looks like a bungled burglary. Police suspect the victims knew their attacker. Attention is turned toward the immediate family, including three children and a son-in-law.

Construction site manager John David Johnston is found shot multiple time in his office in Monroeville, Pennsylvania.

In the early hours of a summer morning a highway patrol officer spots an empty car near a desolate off ramp. Hours later a distressed mother call police. Her daughter left late last night. Now it's morning and she hasn't come home.

Fire Fighters rush to put a blaze in a Pennsylvania forest. They find the charred remains of an African American male but his face and wallet are burned beyond recognition. Evidence of a struggle suggests foul play. There is a piece of ash in the shape of an "S" which is the logo for nearby Shippensburg University. They find the murder victim to be a man by the name of Sidney Bull; a senior at Shippensburg University. In Topeka, Kansas a rookie cop finds an abandoned vehicle. He examines it and makes a shocking discovery in the trunk, a woman's body.

In Mission Viejo, Califronia, a well-dressed young man has been found shot in the middle of the street. Neighbours don't recognize the victim and there are no witnesses. Only four shell casings is a clue to the motive for this killing.

A worried husband call police. His wife is missing. An officer sent to their house in New Port Richey, Florida and makes a shocking discovery in the backyard.

A high school student goes out to wash his car. Moments later his family hears a loud noise. Someone guns down Joey Fisher in his own driveway but there are no witnesses and no apparent motive.
