Doortje repeatedly thinks she's having contractions. De Kampioenen have to play an away game at F.C. Stomp. Oscar has a headache, since he is worried about the chance of father-to-be and key player Pico leaving so he can be with Doortje.

Doortje fakes a postpartum depression so that Pico will take good care of her. Carmen wants a dog. She finds out about Doortje's fake depression and copies Doortje's depression to make sure Xavier succumbs to her nagging and buys a dog.

There's a big fair in town. Dimitri organizes an open house for the occasion while De Kampioenen play a home game. Boma has invited the town's sports deputy. However, some players call in sick. De Kampioenen need an eleventh player.

Dimitri finds a hidden cash box by the roadside, opposite his garage. He picks it up but Doortje and Bieke spot him. Dimitri forces Doortje to keep her mouth shut. Pico and Doortje empathize diligently with their parenting role.

Xavier must transport a contagious virus to the military hospital. However, his army jeep breaks down in front of Dimitri's garage. Boma's car breaks down at the same time, at the same place. Dimitri spills coffee on the virus.

Boma pays a moral psychologist, Pieter-Paul Pereboom, to improve the results of the team. Pereboom becomes Oscar's assistant. Dimitri is impressed with Pereboom and wants to know more about the right selling technique.

Carmen has won a radio contest: a weekend trip off the coast and a concert of Julio Iglesias and The Chippendales. She asks Doortje, Pascale and Bieke to go with her. It's Oscar's birthday. When the cats are away, the men are having fun.

Since a couple of days there's been a smell in town. De Kampioenen think the stench comes from Dimitri's leaking gasoline tank. Later on, this turns out to be unjustified. Dimitri pleads not guilty.

Dimitri has the opportunity to become a local car branch manager and he must expand his garage. He wants to buy Boma's soccer pitch. Dimitri and the car branch delegate pit the women against each other to drive a wedge.

Boma and Pico run for Mayor in different parties. Both try to influence Dimitri as he's the Acting Returning Officer. Boma uses radio broadcaster Marc Vertongen to help with the campaign. With the media behind Boma, Pico loses heart.

Xavier takes dancing lesson from Doortje to surprise his wife Carmen. Howver the attempt to hide his first tango passes starts wild rumors that dance pupil and instructor have an affair, rousing jealousy from Pico and Carmen.

Business is going tough for Dimitri. Even his regular customers are running off to another popular garage in town. Doortje is afraid of losing her job. De Kampioenen have big plans with Dimitri's garage.

Doortje caught Pico flirting at the prom and seeks comfort with Oscar and Pascale. Oscar lies to Pico about his wife's whereabouts. Pico sleeps on Carmen's couch. Xavier returns from night shift and thinks Pico is sleeping with his wife.

Oscar Crucke is an innkeeper besides coach of the underachieving enthusiasts' soccer team F.C. De Kampioenen from Emblem, Flanders. Oscar is married to Pascale De Backer, a snobbish woman who wants to move up in life. Oscar and Pascale have a teenage daughter Bieke. They rent their cafe Cafe De Kampioen from Balthazar Boma, the team's chairman who owns the sausage factory Bomaworst. Boma challenges his marriage. He shows interest in Pascale while asking the impossible from him as a coach. Oscar is defended and much respected by his players: they are very close despite obvious incompetence and occasional pranks. Forward Pico Coppens is a self-confident man and is the best player on the soccer team. Whatever that means. He's a politically active high school teacher in technical subjects who repairs TV sets as an extra income. Pico is married to soft hearted bookkeeper Doortje Van Hoeck. Doortje can restrain her husband at times, though. Pico's the best of friends with goalkeeper Xavier Waterslaeghers. Xavier, as a goalkeeper, serves as a weak link in the soccer team, aged 40+. He's an army corporal, later a sergeant, but is dictated the law by his wife, Boma's cleaning lady Carmen Vandormael. Carmen pulls the strings while Xavier falls short between the sheets. F.C. De Kampioenen is thwarted by stingy car dealer and mechanic Dimitri De Tremmerie. Dimitri is the neighbor of Oscar, Pascale and Bieke and is referred to by the initials of DDT. DDT is a typical anti-hero who swears every now and then and comes up with nefarious plans but who wouldn't hurt a fly. Dimitri loathes the team but as they collude, his plans to bully are then defused.
