Lydie van der Ploeg has raised two children on her own while managing her doctors office.Now for the first time since she lost her husband she is getting close to another man, surgeon Hans Lansberg.

After spending the night at Lydie's place, Hans has left his beeper lying somewhere about the house. Koos stays home with an aching back but Mien gets him to fix Dr. Lydie's plumbing anyway.

With her husband Koos at home sporting a bad back and the Van Der Ploeg family relying on her for all their household needs, Mien Dobbelsteen becomes overworked and needs to relax on the couch.

Koos wants to turn the attic into a room to rent out. Nancy joins some friends who are squatting. But when one of them goes into labor, Nancy gets her mother to help deliver it.

When Nancy goes protesting against the slaughter of horses, her mother ends up with an Irish horse in the backyard. A pretty girl wants to rent the Dobbelsteen's attic.

Lydie gets a telephone call for Hans in the middle of the night. Since nobody knows where he is, Nancy immediately suspects he's seeing another woman. Koos tries to show Mien the joy of fishing.

Koos has bought a second hand car, which soon comes in handy when Lydie can't find her keys and has to pick up grandmother from the station.

Gert-Jan wants to borrow 1000 guilders to buy a car and go on holiday with his girlfriend Claartje. Hans lends him the money so that he can have more time alone with Lydie on holiday in his sisters house in France. Meanwhile Mien is not happy at all with Koos's falling apart car.
