Mark's desire to be more spontaneous leads to a bizarre scene at an awards presentation, and Valerie also finds herself dealing with Willie's goal of becoming a ninja and David's griping about a missed party.

Valerie plays matchmaker for her son David. Meanwhile, the new neighbor's dog is keeping her up at night with its nonstop barking.

A top hairdresser turns Valerie into a blonde. Willie agrees to be David's slave for a week after a skateboard mishap, and Mark gets a pet lizard that he has a hard time keeping track of.

Willie and Mark sneak onto the neighbors' roof to peek at their girl's 13th birthday slumber party. Meanwhile, David needs Valerie to teach him swing dancing for a date.

Willie learns a tough lesson about the difference between television and reality when he takes the family car for a joy ride, causes a hit-and-run accident, and allows David to be blamed. When David tells Willie he is aware of what's going on, Willie imagines a "happy ending in 30 minutes"-type resolution to his predicament. However, Valerie is outraged when Willie decides to finally come clean, and he doesn't get the happy resolution he expected.

A knee injury in a basketball game lands David in the hospital, but even he is taken aback by how frightened he is about the surgery. Mark is desperately trying to avoid Willie's friend Judy, who is determined to be his girlfriend.

Valerie's tiresome, irritating Aunt Josephine stops by for a routine visit, and strains the boys' good behavior. But when Josephine dies while Valerie is taking her home, everyone becomes unsure of how they ought to feel.

David persuades Willie and Mark to pitch in and help him buy a used car, in exchange for giving them rides wherever they want. Valerie discovers that their plumbing is being ruined by the roots of the Stecks' elm tree.

A divorced toy-store owner develops a crush on Valerie after she helps him with his marketing. The boys try to come up with an ideal gift for Valerie's birthday, and decide to replace the broken garbage disposal.

Michael is grounded at home due to a pilots' strike, but the family gradually grows weary of his interference with their normal routine.

On her way to Bermuda for a getaway with Michael, Valerie is mistaken for a purse snatcher by airport security. David's plan to go to a concert goes awry when Mrs. Poole's niece needs babysitting.

When Valerie signs up for a self-defense class with Patty and Annie, David is left in charge of the twins, but he decides to pay someone else to watch them so he can meet a girl at the library.

David gets harassed by his tutor's ex-boyfriend. After foot surgery, Valerie has to contend with Mrs. Poole's overly helpful nature.

When the girl who gave David his first kiss ten years earlier arrives with her family to stay with the Hogans for a college visit, sparks between them resume, and David considers consummating the relationship.

Willie gets a date with his dream girl, on the condition that he bring a date for her cousin. After promising to bring Mark, it takes some begging for Willie to get him to agree to the double date, chauffeured by their brother David.

After taking over as coach of the twins' soccer team, Valerie has to teach Willie some hard lessons in commitment and teamwork. David takes over the cooking and cleaning for two weeks in exchange for a new car stereo.

Valerie agrees to direct Annie's play for the community theater - but upon discovering that the local weather girl cast in the lead is talentless, she has to decide if her understudy Mrs. Poole is right for the part.

Mark's pet lizard dies while in David's care, and David is flippant about the loss and his brother's reaction, so Mark decides to take David to court.

After Michael finally acquires his dream sports car, David immediately wrecks it while trying to impress a girl - and he dreads his father's reaction.

After Willie wrecks Mark's school project and David's CD player, they decide to reject him as a brother. Valerie attempts to lose weight to prepare for an upcoming beach vacation.

Valerie and the boys borrow Mrs. Poole's camper for a weekend camping trip, but are stranded when the camper is stolen while they're out fishing.

When Michael's old Air Force buddy comes to visit, he surprises everyone with his new wife, but Valerie is angered by his inconsiderate and boorish attitude toward her.
