Rab C. Nesbitt returns for the first time in nearly a decade and seems to be a changed man, but can he resist a return to his old ways as Christmas approaches?

Rab and Mary persuade ex-junkie son Gash to leave the psychiatric ward where he ended up due to the credit crunch and to live with them. They also broker a meeting with his daughter Peaches. Jamesie falls foul of Ella when,in his lustful efforts to impress young Hungarian single mum Virag he gives her their double bed.

When a newly-erected mobile phone mast plays havoc with Jamesie's piercings and gives the Nesbitts head-aches so that Peaches' mother threatens to stop her sleep-overs Rab leads a local protest to the Go Phones company office.Rab scores a moral victory when the mast is removed but everyone else is less happy as all they wanted was compensation.

When Rab's benefits are in danger of being stopped and the plasma television set re-possessed, he accepts new acquaintance Lonny's suggestion that he pretend to be a transvestite called Candy. Social security snoopers are following him everywhere, so he has to stay in character until Lonny shows him how to get them off his back, and a friendly new face starts work at the benefits office.

Whilst Mary aims to reunite Bridie with Gash, Rab match-makes his lovelorn son with Camille the barmaid. However Camille is also the object of Jamesie's lustful attentions and he drugs Gash to turn Camille off him. When Camille rejects him Jamesie turns to S and M with Ella, leading Rab initially to the wrong conclusion but an eventual family reconciliation.

Rab is impotent. Mary,running a successful cleaning business with Ella, blames herself for his feeling emasculated. The Nesbitts and Cotters all attend a Burns Night Supper where the women hope that Saunders McClure,who runs a large cleaning firm, will take them on. However, having met Saunders in his office, Mary is distressed to find he only wants to take her over to put her out of business to eliminate the competition. Ever the dutiful husband Rab goes to see Saunders,to get his own back, his Mary back and his mojo back.

Rab and Jamesie agree to sit with Camille's terminally ill, elderly neighbour Maggie for a couple of hours but when the nurse fails to show up find themselves there for the night. They fall out as Rab reminds Jamesie of his affair with Mary in response to his neighbour's disappointment at his giving up the drink. As Maggie slips away they reconcile and end up in the park with a bottle - but not of alcohol.
