Once again Rik is trying to have Stavros, Ida and Jef work without paying for it. Sick and tired of it, they go on strike. But Rik has foreseen their plan and has hired Crazy Raymond to do the work of all three - for free.

Rik wants to buy a truck, so someone is going to have to drive the thing. Stavros is his first choice, but Stavros has no talent for driving. Jef would really like to, as he thinks driving is less work, but finally it will be Ida who is the best driver.

Working for Rik and taking care of Rikki is getting too much for Stavros, and Rik finally agrees to hire a housekeeper. No one expected that Stavros and Stanske, the housekeeper, would fall in love, giving Nieke the perfect tool to blackmail her father.

Nieke has been boasting about her job in a fancy clothing store in Brussels, but the truth is somewhat different.

To escape Niekes lawyer, Stavros has officially "gone sailing". In truth, he's holed up in a lodging, called "The Congo". As Jef is always a risk - he might blab to anyone - he joins him in "The Congo".

Aunt Gusta has died, and the vultures are circling : Rik is after Gustas house, and after Gustas cash. According to mother Lizea, there is no cash, however. Pierre gets a shaving kit, that belonged to uncle Nestor. Jef, jealous he hasn't gotten anything, gets the shaving kit from Pierre, and finds over 50.000 francs. Aunt Gusta had arranged for the cash to go to Pierre, instead of Rik. Rik is convinced Liza has stolen the money, and the situation escalates.

Edgard sells a stack of books to Rik. One of them is "Secret Diseases", a 19th century pamphlet about venereal diseases, distributed to soldiers of the Belgian army during WWI, to frighten them into abstinence. Jef, always interested in reading about diseases, gets his hands on the book, and immediately finds all kinds of symptoms in himself.

Rik has the idea of setting up a live Christmas stable, with Jef and Ida as Joseph and Mary. Marleen discovers she is pregnant and confides in Ida. Ida can't keep her mouth shut, but Jef misinterprets her hints and thinks he's about to become a father. He's devastated when he finds out the truth.

Jef is now working for the butcher, delivering orders. When a pound of sausages get stolen (actually eaten by Jefke, the dog), Jef and Ida suspect Marcello, the new Sicilian employee of Rik.
