Investigating authorities outline the circle of suspects. These are entrepreneurs Karataev and Gorskikh, the New York recluse Dashkevich and Orekhov, who also lives abroad. The presidential administration receives information from the FSB about the impending merger between the companies of Gorskikh and Dashkevich and gives another directive - to prevent this. The place of Gorskikh and Dashkevich, according to the people from the Old Square, should be taken by Karataev. In order to enhance security, the FSB offers the businessman his man to replace the murdered Kolov. Andrey, who works under Pafnutyev, establishes contact with the chiefs of the security service, Karataev and Gorskikh.

On the instructions of the Old Square, Khromchenko (FSB) and Chizhov (Foreign Intelligence Service) are developing a plan to return Dashkevich to Russia. At the end of the conversation, Chizhov goes to meet Gorskikh. Pafnutyev finally meets with Kholandovskiy, and he tells how he ended up under the command of Karataev. He also reports that shortly before the murder of Kolov, a new batch of goods arrived, which the entrepreneur was very interested in and which was guarded with special care.

Pafnutyev learns that the weapon from which Kolov was killed appeared in Tula, a local crime boss was shot from it. Leonid discovers the owner of the apartment, Julius, who was found in a pond in Perkhushkovo with a stone around his neck. Gorskikh agrees with Rodionov and Sergachyov about some major economic fraud. In Italy, Dashkevich invites Orekhov to join their efforts "in the war with the Karataevs and in friendship with the Gorskikh", but is refused.

Stanislav Galkin, an economist working in the Presidential Administration, comes to the Prosecutor General's Office to see Malkin. Articles about scandals in Nefteprom appear in newspapers. Dashkevich suggests that Gorskikh should use Orekhov in the common interests and instruct him to organize the world press.

Irina and Leonid escort Pafnutyev and Andrey to Sheremetyevo. After saying goodbye, Irina notices Lavrentiy, who has been following them all this time. They understand that they saw Lavrentiy at Rybakov's when they tracked his dacha, and later Irina saw him in the health resort. Leonid, sitting behind the wheel of Irina's car, is trying to catch up with Lavrentiy's jeep. But the chase was not successful. Karataev tells Krasin that he is being blackmailed by Gorskikh, who demands forty percent of his shares.

Pafnutyev and Andrey arrive in New York. Orekhov confirms to Dashkevich his readiness to launch the campaign he promised in the coming days. But he needs guarantees that Dashkevich will officially announce the persecution. After that, Orekhov promises to provide the project with maximum attention from the Western press. But Dashkevich does not trust him.

Gorskikh arrives in Moscow. Rybakov meets him at Sheremetyevo. The prosecutor's office is waiting for important physical evidence from Tula, which will allow Rybakov to be charged with several murders. Pavel Pafnutyev meets with Khudoley at the prosecutor's office.

At the airport in Rome, Anna Karno is met by Giovanni, Dashkevich's security guard. According to him, he must give Anna a confidential message from her husband, who was never able to fly out of the United States. Anna gets into a car unfamiliar to her. Irina manages to find in the archive information about Karataev's personal account, which he diligently hid. It becomes clear on which hook Orekhov is holding Karataev.

Orekhov is almost certain that the kidnapping of his wife is the work of Gorskikh and Dashkevich. Pafnutyev seeks authorization for their arrest, as well as for the arrest of Rybakov. Krasin tells Karataev that both Nefteprom and Neftedobycha will eventually go to him, and introduces the entrepreneur to Colonel Starikov, who from that day begins to play the role of the head of the businessman's security service. Karataev was ordered not to take any steps without the knowledge of Starikov.
