When Buddy gets a part-time job at a bakery, Willie is smitten with the owner, Big Al. Meanwhile, Nancy finds herself in a romantic triangle between Peter, her former college professor, and ex-husband Jeff, anxious for a reconciliation.

Willie's relationship with Big Al is complicated by Salina's surprise reappearance in his life. Doug considers relocating the family to New York.

Willie annoys the family when he decides to film their lives for a documentary. In a school assignment, Buddy ponders how she'll leave her mark on the world.

Buddy begins puberty. Nancy finds herself torn between Peter's proposal and her attraction to a stranger.

Kate confronts fear and prejudice when she's selected for jury duty in the trial of a young Latino man accused of the rape and murder of a girl the same age as Buddy. Buddy tries to win T.J. Latimer and a skateboarding competition.

After Rudy Cortes is freed, Kate doubts her decision when another young girl is murdered. Buddy is stalked by the killer.

The family is drawn into a custody battle between Salina and her daughter's married father. Kate accidentally discovers that Elaine's husband Fred is being unfaithful.

Doug must face his sister Emily's alcoholism. Buddy tries to help a senior citizen she spots shoplifting food from the supermarket.

Doug and his father are at odds when James introduces the family to his younger fiancée Constance, a woman with a lurid past. Jeff angers Nancy by insisting that Timmy accompany him on a Christmas cruise.

Willie begins an affair with older film director Elizabeth Kraft. Buddy gifts Doug with a dog for his birthday.

Maggie Calder, the woman who nearly destroyed Doug and Kate's marriage 20 years ago, is back for a second attempt. Buddy feels she's being treated like a baby.

Kate intercedes for Elaine and the young woman she gave up for adoption before marrying Fred. Willie wonders about the private life of a beautiful client at the photo studio.

After a hit-and-run accident, Doug must decide between a life of total blindness or risky surgery that could completely restore his vision or possibly kill him.

A fearful Doug attempts to adjust to life as a blind man, while the family is divided about the surgery that may restore his sight.

Willie and Salina search for an apartment together. Jeff's mother Sylvia is confined to the Lawrence home following a back injury and a quarrel with Jeff's father.

A chance meeting with psychic Calvin Manners becomes an obsession with Kate when he assures her that he can solve the mystery of her favorite aunt, missing since World War II.
