Dodging state of the art electronic security, hackers steal a priceless painting aboard a motorized yacht, destine for restitution to Grelany from a Russian museum, a major diplomatic embarrassment*. Hackers Hanno Jacobsen, an ex con, and captain Holger Ehlers's mischievous friend Nils Krüger, a former colleague, make the Obvious subjects. Niels and his buddy Ben set out to find out about Hanno, the others check out a possible political trail.

While a diving school hired for the job clears more World War II mines, the managing brother is blown up. The coast guard finds it was no accident but a detonated trap, and their ship was also boogie trapped, luckily that malfunctioned. They must look into the firm's near-bankruptcy and ecologist opposition to the mine clearing, as well as an alternative robot project in prototype stage.

After hosting the sponsors VIP show for his "Miss Ostsee" pageant, where he's decked by Max Ebbers after his girl claims a rival among the eight candidates spiked her drink to cause cramps, organizer Harald 'Harry' Hansen's corpse in found aboard a yacht, wearing the 25 edition sash and diadem, skull smashed. The team looks into rivalries and the return after 20 years of former winner Gabriele Delius, whose DNA fits someone.

Three weeks after a fire aboard yacht Alqari at sea, crew engineer Theo, the regional shipping school safety instructor, is found alone on it, died from fumes deliberately routed to his cabin, while he took a sleeping tablet, but suicide is practically ruled out. The MO fits the accident which wrecked the career of amnesiac has been Tv-actress Vanessa Gerlach, who was about to make a comeback aboard a cruiser with former co-star Lukas Bremer. Theo's colleague and lover Petra Kühn knew he had an affair with Vanessa.

During a pirate kidnapping exercise with the coast guard, security firm Sea-Safe employee Michael Heise is killed by live ammo, substituted for blanks. Ther team investigates rival competitor Manfred Kowaltschik, but soon discovers arms dealer Charles is involved. Captain Sander comes to believe one of their staff must be selling secrets to Somali pirates.

Patroling at sea, Feddersen and Norge find bird corpses, covered in red pustules. He was dating his brother's ex, Benjamin 'Ben' Asmus's former little neighbor's daughter Antonia Polack. Arne Pereson's corpse washes up from sea, covered in the same pustules, but germs institute Dr. Knut Nahlik claims both are harmless and unrelated.

During ex-con chef and restaurant owner Joe Brandel's exclusive cooking course aboard his yacht, guest Siegfried Kanopka dies, apparently from excessive coughing, actually from poisoned cough candy, Siegfried's trade mark. Chief Gruber wants to keep the press off due to political contacts. The victim and a client aboard had motives related to Brandel's criminal past.

Patrolling off Mecklenburg, the "Albatros II" crew finds a yacht, abandoned by its skipper, while party drugs are found aboard. Ben worries when it seems to be his recently returned poker buddy Jörg Mirbach, a pro ship mechanic, whose life was falling apart by privately and professionally, indeed running up gambling debts, so he was kidnapped by a collecting goon * . .

Aboard captain Jasper Michelsen's freighter, marine biologist Lara Rothmann stumbled across her sponsor, shipping company founder's heiress Susanna's candy-poisoned corpse. The team targets her husband Tilman Seydlitz, who has a mistress and made shady deals with company lawyer Dr. Werner Vosskamp. The customs suspect the firm of major money laundering, but excessive zeal is found based on personal motives.

While the team celebrates Pia Cornelius's birthday aboard, she's shot on the Ostsee, apparently fatally. A funeral is performed, but only to lure out the sniper. Prime suspects are her ex Enne Friedmann, whose present girl jealously Solveig Brunner suspects he wants Pia back, and gang motor-biker Ingvar Thom, against whose recently arrested brother-thief she was to testify.

Coast guard captain Holger Ehlers took a few days to spend with grandson Timo, brought by the knave's musician stepfather Roman. As Marten Feddersen is shot by armed fisherman turned smuggler Armin Kruse, who resisted arrest when inspected at sea and escaped by stealing a speedy boat, Ehlers returns on the job, dragging Timo to HQ. Kruse's crewman Wim Hombach's role is unclear.

Kai notices at a single pic that Ben hopes in vain to seduce buddy Nils Krüger's girl Alina, whom the knave took 'sailing' on Ben's yacht. Alas, the kids have worse concerns, masked and armed. The Albatross crew, picking up a top-secret guest en route to a Riga event, is puzzled when the yacht is reported sunk by such a capable ex colleague whom they take aboard, unsuspecting the "ransom" concerns them. Krüger must play a masterly game with hardly any cards.

Patrolling at sea, the coast guard discovers first a stuffed penguin mascot, the the drifting corpse of Max Stoltze, crew member of Seawatch, the small local environmental activist group Pia Cornelius once belonged to. Seawatch's founder-boss denies that he knew that a targeted local businessman obtained priceless inside information from Max, enabling him to counter activist operations.

Jasper Stein's old mother Elisabeth has a fatal cardiac crisis while he takes her on a yacht trip. Jasper and wife Sonja's curious attitude seems to confirm Cornelius's suspicion that it may not be a natural death, which the coroner rules. Against Grubers' orders to back off, Kai and Ben reluctantly help check out a mistaken identity theory. Meanwhile Holger leads the official investigation about inexperienced Lithuanian captain Leonas Paulauska's suspicious voyages, which links to the Stein case.
