Police detective Paul Gigante moves from Washington DC to Bakersfield CA CD where he's teamed with a white partner obsessed with black culture.

Paul takes over for Hampton. Wade's sister is in town and has an affair with Boyer.

Wade is smitten by a young woman he meets while investigating a burglary. Captain Stiles tries to avoid giving a donation at the department's blood drive.

Detective Paul Gigante is promoted to Captain Stiles'right-hand man for the day when Sgt. Hampton goes out of town.

At a poker game hosted by Wade for the police precinct Paul is the big winner upsetting his fellow officers.

A secret that Detective Gigante confides to Wade quickly spreads through the precinct.

Detective Wade Preston becomes jealous when Paul's former partner comes to town and rumors circulate that Sgt. Hampton may retire.

During a police sting Captain Stiles disappears into the bathroom rather than deal with a madam's black book containing the names of influential johns.

Denny Boyer takes the detective's test but doesn't detect a hostage situation developing in the captain's office.

Detective Wade Preston is elated when his television hero, Joe Santos (Det. Becker on The Rockford Files) visits the station.

Secret Service agents arrive to protect the Presidential motorcade as it passes through town and most of the Bakersfield department is clueless.

Ray Coombs, a thief released from prison, returns to Bakersfield to exact revenge on Captain Stiles who apprehended him 10 years earlier.
