The city of Kurouzu-cho is cursed by a supernatural force that manifests in the continued symbol of the spiral. Kirie Goshima and her boyfriend Shuichi Saito are high-school teenagers in the town. They witness how the spiral affects the people around them, both physically and psychologically, as the town itself is damned by an uncontrollable force. Obsessed with the vision of spiral shapes in everything, the clouds, the trees, skin and hair, the town goes slowly insane. Shuichi and Kirie are at the center of climactic events that question their very perception of reality.
