Shortly after her farewell to maternity leave, heavily pregnant Commissioner Alexandra "Alex" Enders is drugged and kidnapped in a supermarket parking lot.

The investigation into the murder of the Romanian prostitute Irina leads Alex and her colleagues to the Küffner couple, who seem to be hiding a secret.

Alex is convinced that someone wants to prevent her investigation at all costs. Is this someone the ominous Radu Motrescu, managing director of the dubious fertility agency?

The charred body of Stefan Krusowitz is discovered on an abandoned industrial wasteland. At the crime scene, Alex finds a clue to the place where she was held captive for six days.

Alex discovers a connection between the dead Krusowitz and her own ex-boyfriend Jakob. But when she tells Nowak about it, he suspends Alex for her untenable service violations.

On the run from her colleagues, Alex is haunted by her own fears and self-reproaches. The search for the truth soon makes her doubt everything, including herself.
