A train carrying rounded up Jews is forced to stop in Villeneuve. Daniel proposes to house them temporarily in the school, much to the concern of Jules who set up an anti German propaganda printing station in its basement.

The captive Jews are settled in at the school, but not for long after it becomes obvious that food and water supplies are critically low. The guards want to use Jules secret printing area in the basement as storage for their equipment.

The police are on the hunt after Jules and Cremieux barely manage to evade arrest. The situation at the school is deteriorating quickly. Daniel is faced with even more troubling news concerning the captured Jewish families.

After the Gestapo's decision to separate the Jewish families, Daniel decides to resign as mayor of Villeneaue. A tragedy hits the Jewish captives, while Marchetti attempts to release a woman among them who he's enamored with along with her mother.

After a father and daughter successfully escape, the Gestapo takes over supervision and the Jewish families remain separated. Knowing his wife and daughter will be relocated soon, Cremieux presses Marie and Jules to hatch a rescue operation.

Marie successfully helps Helene escape from the school, but raises the alarm in the process. Hortense visits the school, on behalf of Daniel, to deliver food and clothes for Sarah. The Jewish prisoners are transported by train to Paris.

Daniel and Sarah stumble upon a wounded man in a barn who escaped capture by the Germans. Across town Jules receives a surprise visitor who insists on bring taken to the groups Resistance leader.

Marie helps Victor retrieve his radio equipment so he can send an urgent message to London. After discovering that Marcel was hiding out at their fathers house Daniel insists that Sarah hides there too, despite his brothers protests.

Suzanne's reappearance puts Marcel in a very bad spot with his group leader, who discovered he lied about executing her. Marchetti and his colleagues attempt to set up a trap for Marie's son in an attempt to locate other Resistance members.

Marchetti is under pressure to hand Cremieux over to the Germans,but insists on retaining him in order to carry out his own investigation. Marcel's leader instructs him to propose an alliance with Villeneuve other resistance group.

Marie's farm is under surveillance after Cremieux makes a deal with Marchetti to have his family released. Marie and Vincent unaware of Cremieux:s betrayal prepare for the meeting with the Communist group.

Marchetti relinquishes command of the stakeout before realizing that Rita was at the farm. Desperate to save her life Marchetti approaches Heinrich Mueller to prevent a bloodbath.
