A Danish and a German couple of friends and their teenage children live together on a small island in Flensburg Fjord. The two families are closely linked and live an almost paradise-like life on the beautiful island. But soon the idyll crackles. During a boat trip, the accident hits and everything starts to fall apart. Lies are revealed and deep secrets come to the surface.

In all secrecy, Cecile and Kjell have fallen for each other. Later that summer, Cecile overhears a conversation that shakes her deeply. It sends her on a mental downturn that really picks up speed when Kjell disappears into the sea.

Bernd can not let go of his son's accident. Is Jacob lying to him? Bernd's hunt for the truth helps him deal with the pain of losing Kjell. But at the same time, it threatens to put everything else in his life at stake.

Emile mourns the loss of her best friend. At the same time, it dawns on him that his sister is in serious trouble. To help her, he puts his own life and health at stake.

Karl is sure that Kjell is not dead. He hangs lights up everywhere in the fjord area to make him return home. And soon he makes a discovery that seems to confirm his theory that Kjell is still alive.

Charlie is facing a decision that could literally mean the difference between life and death. She has to face the fact that she can not do everything alone. But can she get herself to ask family and friends for help?
