Mike Endicott and his girls are pleased when Aunt Harriet comes to visit. Their delight begins to fade when Harriet look like she is planning on making her permanent home with the family.

Michael Endicott decides to pretend to be an native Italian when he meets an attractive American. Things are going fine until one of his daughters finds out and Michael has difficulty explaning the ruse to his child.

When the neighbors learn the Endicotts have the only operating phone in the vicinity they are constantly asking to use it. Michael and his daughter's frustration grows when they can't make calls and start missing messages.

A series of happenings occur leading the girls to reminisce fondly of Iowa. The homesickness soon turns into a demand to return to the United States.

Mike learns that an old girlfriend Elaine lives in Rome and is looking forward to seeing her again. But she is now a wealthy countess and is eager to reconnect with the Endicott father.

The Endicotts encounter and make friends with American flower child Carla. Things go well until Mike thinks Alison is attracted to the carefree lifestyle that Carla presents as desirable.

On a rare day off Michael tries to find a beautiful girl he met during WW II. he finds her but finds the years have changed both of them.

At the library, Mike encounters a famous ballerina trying to make a telephone call to her boyfriend in Waco, Texas. His attempts at helping her lead to a budding romance, but her highly public life of fame in the public eye leads to unwanted complications for the more reserved Professor.

Count Marius invites Alison to a glamorous night at the opera. But Alison has a dilemma, she must find exactly the right gown. She enlists her dad for help despite his protests that he doesn't understand fashion.

Penny finds an old Roman coin and because of it's value she believes she is rich. But learning that sister Pokey threw it in the fountain for good luck she is faced with a dilemma.

Mike encounters his sister-in-law Connie who wants the Endicotts to return to America plus pursue a romance with Mike. Penny thinks Alison is about to elope, sending the younger sister into a panic.

An American artist George living in Rome makes an impression on the Endicotts, especially Alison. The painter ask the young lady to pose for him and Alison is sure it means love.

When a boy asks her on a date Penny is persuaded to give up her tomboy ways at least for one evening.

Mike Endicott is pursued by an attractive woman who wants him to be her companion. But Mike finds the pursuits of the idle rich not to his liking and tries to end the relationship.

A baby has gone missing and Mike leads the effort in trying to find it. Little does he know that Pokey found the infant and is caring for it in the Endicott family apartment.

Mike thinks of a friend of Alison as an adolescent but Julie sees herself as an adult. Who has developed a crush on Mike and he must extricate himself from the predicament.

Mike has a dilemma that every parent dreads. Alison and Penny have important events on the same night which he must decide which to attend.

Maria, a lonely girl from a well to do family, is befriended by Penny. Her attachment to the Endicott family grows and becomes a problem but her parents don't seem to notice.

The Endicotts get involved with the filming of a movie. Mike has a problem on his hands when Penny gets a huge crush on the film's star.

Gino wants to impress an old girlfriend and need an favor from the Endicotts. They agree to lend Gino their apartment but things get complicated when the family is ready to return.

Thoughts of their deceased mother are on the girl's mind as their dad Mike begins dating Janice. Their father is quite taken with the woman but his daughters doubt her motives.
