From his famous chair, Val rocks back in a new series to keep you smiling in his oh-so-easy way. But in case you get carried away, there's also Corporal Jones from Dad's Army, alias Clive Dunn, to bring you smartly back to attention. And from the other side of the generation gap, there's Elizabeth Archard, the young star of the TV series Pollyanna. Together with Val, she tells in song what happens when I'm Opposite Your Smile. Music comes from the group Fabric and Kenny Woodman and his orchestra.

With guests and gags and a tune or two, it's Mr Relaxation himself Val Doonican. The comedy is strictly for the birds when Emu makes his presence felt, despite Rod Hull's efforts to suppress him. More songs come from Des Lane and the lovely Isobel Hurll while music is supplied by the group Fabric and by Kenny Woodman and his orchestra.

John Woodvine - one time inspector Witty of Z-Cars and more recently Det-Chief Inspector Kingdom of new Scotland Yard - sings on his own and with his host tonight. Another arresting guest is Ronnie Hayward treading the comedy beat, while the musical beat comes from the group Fabric and from Kenny Woodman and his orchestra.

Mike Newman is Val's guest tonight and he specialises in poking gentle fun at his (and Val's) fellow countrymen. But with Val providing the songs, it seems that tonight's half hour will be dominated by Ireland - so guess who gets the last laugh? Backing comes from the group Fabric and from Kenny Woodman and his orchestra.

Time for more variety with Val and this week's guest is a one-man variety show in himself. He's Harold Wilson, he's Frankie Vaughan, he's Morecambe and Wise - he's that peach of an impressionist Paul Melba. Adding music to the variety are the group Fabric and Kenny Woodman and his orchestra.

The show with the liltingly Irish flavour assumes an upper crust English accent this evening. Nothing to do with Val, it's because that thoroughbred gentlemen Basil Brush has agreed to come up from the country to lend Mr Doonican a bit of culture. Basil, the garrulous, impertinent, even flashy fox provides humour right out of the top drawer while Val provides some of your favourite ballads with help from the group Fabric and Kenny Woodman and his orchestra.
