Charlie's old college pal and his wife come to visit with the Ruggles welcoming them glad. But as the stay becomes extended the Stones and their snobbish ways wear out the down to earth Ruggles family.

Father Ruggles has decided all forms of games of chance are bad and forbids everything from playing card to marbles. It takes an unusual experience for Charlie to admit he was wrong.

Sharon is conducting a romance with a soldier she's never met through the mail. When he suddenly shows up at home the Ruggles family is thrown into turmoil about how to handle the situation.

Sharon sends in her poems to the newspaper and makes a big to-do about being a writer, meanwhile Chuck has been left by Mary-Ann for another guy.

When Charlie sees his girl out with an older guy he gets jealous. The solution to him is to appear more mature and he attempts to grow a mustache. The results are dismal and his potential rival turns out to be a cousin.

Charlie's chance encounter with a bottle of fleas leads to various amusing circumstances.

In a production of Alice in Wonderland Charlie is cast as the March Has. His comedic timing brings down the house with laughter.

Donald's bike is stolen and his dad Charlie decides to play detective to get the possession back.

Chuck is ready to celebrate his 18th birthday but his family and girl Mary Ann seem to have forgotten it. Disappointed he decides to join the military unaware everyone has been secretive for a surprise party.

Charlie thinks mother works too hard and the kids agree so Margaret takes a solo trip to Palm Springs. The Ruggles left at home suddenly realize how much she does and is under appreciated by her family.

While the twins are playing cowboy they meet a runaway boy who's life seem adventurous. The trio soon are riding in trucks around the city while the rest of the family worries.

Charlie's boss offers him use of his rustic cabin so taking son Chuck along they depart on a fishing excursion. But their excitement is derailed when the find find the camp currently occupied.

The kids ask dad Charlie for an allowance raise so to teach them about budgets they are put in charge of house expenditures. Promised any leftover money the children cuts costs and still run things efficiently.

Charlie's former girlfriend, a charming lady of the South, comes for a visit. The kids become worried when they see their dad respond to her flattery and fear for their parent's marriage.

Sharon sells a poem to a magazine and she decides she's a great writer with a temperamental disposition to match. It's up to father Charlie to bring her back to reality.

Twins Donna and Donald try to enter their mutt Rover in a pedigree dog show but are turned down. Dad Charlie tries to fix things by conducting a neighborhood exhibit with about two dozen kids presenting their beloved pets.
