Curtis and the rest of the Payne family take a road trip to Florida where Ella receives a stunning surprise.

Ella is fuming after Curtis makes a life-changing decision without her input. Meanwhile, Curtis discovers that he has been duped into a bad investment.

While Curtis is determined to get his money back after realizing he was swindled, Ella considers staying when she realizes the community's need for a strong community presence.

Curtis and Ella begin to settle in Florida and get reacquainted with their cousins, but the house renovations go wrong and Ella becomes concerned when Nyla goes missing.

Ella and Curtis find Nyla hiding at the laundromat with her kids after fleeing her boyfriend's abuse. But Kendrick has been injured and Nyla asks Ella to take the children if she goes to jail.

Ella and Curtis await Nyla's return in hopes of resolving her legal issues. Kenny and Lynn reveal important info about their mother's relationship with Kendrick. Ryan and his friends begin to improve the laundromat.

Ella and Curtis become more involved with Nyla and her problems. They contemplate letting Nyla and her kids move in. Ella worries how the children are being affected by being homeless.

Nyla stays up, which keeps Ella and Curtis up, and they both talk to Nyla about it.

Curtis asks for Ella's help in ordering laundry items on the Internet, but Ella gets mad at him when she sees the browser history.

Lynn keeps reliving how Kendrick 'punished' her while he was beating up Nyla. Ella informs Nyla, and Nyla says that Lynn is lying. When Kendrick comes back claiming that he's better, Nyla learns that Lynn was telling the truth.

Curtis starts making repairs to the garage by himself, and Ella wants a professional involved. Meanwhile, Kendrick keeps trying to get back into Nyla's life, and Nyla improves on talking and listening to Lynn and Kenny.

Curtis continues to try making repairs, but it gets out of hand and Ella gets Terrance the handyman involved; Ella gets a loan.

The family is in an uproar after Ryan tells Joann about some money that one of Ella's contractors found in the laundromat.

Joann decides to sue Ella and Curtis when she learns of the money found during the renovation. Curtis wants to keep all of the cash and Nyla tries to mediate between the two.

Ella has her hands full keeping Curtis away from the renovations at the laundromat. Despite her best efforts Curtis sneaks onto the site but the contractor makes sure he doesn't get involved.

Curtis tries playing matchmaker for Terrence and Nyla and setting them up on a blind date, but Nyla isn't interested.

When Curtis and Ella learn that Nyla is seeing Kendrick again, Ella is afraid that she's returning to a situation where she'll be abused again, starting the cycle over for her and her children.

Nyla and Kendrick reveal interesting news to the Paynes.

Ella gets Curtis a new suit for the opening of the Laundromat, but the checks bounce and the FBI gets involved. Meanwhile, Kendrick wants Nyla to come home, but she wants to take it slow.

The FBI is taking the laundromat, and Ella's loan has been confiscated, but Curtis won't allow it. Meanwhile, Nyla wants Ella and Curtis to watch the kids so she can go on a date with Kendrick.
