Rufus and Bert prepare to make a television commercial for Bert's diner.

Rufus happens upon a promising songwriter and persuades Bert to represent. Claudia's former boyfriend is now a record producer and Bert convinces him the diner is a chain. An order of 3,000 rolls is the result.

When Dan's interrogation methods are deemed unlawful in court, a drug smuggler whom Jack and Dan busted months ago is set free. Despite the absence of department resources, an unfettered Dan vows to bring down the entire smuggling ring using only the money in his pocket.

Rufus has an accident on Bert's wet sidewalk and sues his best friend.

Rufus starts predicting the future which in the beginning is harmless fun. But when Rufus foresees Bert having a terrible accident he tries to protect his friend from any disaster.

Bert makes the error of loaning his buddy Rufus his credit card. Rufus doesn't know how to control his spending and Bert has outrageous bills show up that are due.

Bert and Rufus get the ingredients to their army pal's special pancakes. After fixing a batch the two buddies enjoy themselves having a great time as the secret is alcohol.

Hoping to attract truck drivers to Bert's place, Rufus persuades Bert's wife Claudia to post as "Frisco Fritzi," a gum-chewing, sharp-tongued waitress.

Bert hires an ex-convict at the diner but he and Rufus are nervous about the man relapsing. Bert is worried about the wrong person turning criminal however as Rufus accidentally steals the man's watch.

Rufus goes to a lot of trouble to surprise Bert with a toupee for his birthday, but Bert flatly refuses to wear it until Claudia persuades him to try it -- and, to her horror, he becomes a changed man.

Rufus is wrangled into proposing to Gertie on behalf of the tongue-tied Big Tom, and Gertie's three protective brothers then hold Rufus responsible for getting the boozing Big Tom to the wedding sober.

Bert hires Julian who laments of being irresistible to women. Rufus and Bert are doubtful but waitress Stella falls for him despite a jealous boyfriend Enrico. The two pals are shocked when Claudia and Julian disappear.

Rufus and Bert frantically try to hid $50,000 from two thugs chasing a bookie who used Bert's place as his headquarters.

Henry Arsdale, Claudia's wealthy father, visits and make it clear he disapproves that his daughter works in a diner. Bert and Rufus try to cheer Claudia up along with showing Henry the eatery isn't that bad.

Bert is forced to sell his diner at auction for financial reasons. The new owner is a surprise, his buddy Rufus accidentally buys it.

Accompanied by an old boyfriend, Claudia attends an upscale social event. Bert and Rufus pose as waiters to keep an eye on her.
