Jesse White tells Frank Sinatra that Nelson Riddle's orchestra is drowning out his feeble voice, so he has hired a smaller band. The smaller band turns out to be Spike Jones and his City Slickers, who promptly transform the program into a non-stop musical joke. Jesse and Spike put on a Telethon to raise money for Frank, one of the great entertainers of "yesteryear." Frank is at first insulted, but then decides, "A buck is a buck." In the grand finale, Frank sings Spike's hit version of "Chloe", with Spike Jones backing.

During an oppressive heatwave, a husband and wife have a violent argument over the virtues of city versus suburban living.

Frank is joined by Ethel Mermen for an evening of comedy and song. In the featured sketch, Frank and Ethel play a high-powered show-business couple who are surprised by a TV interviewer and have to conceal that their home is a mess.
