The Flaxton Boys

The war is over and all the children who were evacuated to Flaxton Hall are going home. All but Terry Nicholls, whose house was bombed and his parents are missing. As the troops are leaving the Hall, Terry hops on the back of a truck heading for London.

The Estate Manager Benjamin Sweet is back from the war. He takes Terry and Matthew to help with the jobs that need doing. They come across Jim Cooper, who had his pig taken away for not having a permit. The boys find out that the men who took it actually stole it. They were not from the government.

Von Metz, a Nazi, has just parachuted into a field. He claims he is in the RAF and his name is George King. Benjamin figures out that he is the escaped Nazi and chases him down, only to have Mr. Cox get a medal for it.

Marco is an Italian POW working at Flaxton Hall. Terry resents him because his father is missing in Italy. He wants to trade Marco for his dad. Marco wants to escape and steals a motorcycle. Terry wants to go to London in case his father shows up and sees their bombed house. He will think his family is dead. Will Marco take the boy as far as London in his escape?

Gregg Cutler is a Bevin Boy. He could not join the army because the army conscripted him to work in the local coal mine. The boys resent him because both their fathers are in the war, and they think he is a coward. Lawyer Peter Weekes gives him a job as an assistant apprentice. The boys catch him putting a letter in his pocket and follow him to prove he is untrustworthy.

Philip Hedley returns from war with post traumatic stress disorder, and he relives his war ordeal. He kidnaps the boys thinking they are his soldiers.

The boys find out from Mr. Whitehead, the grocer, that there are bandits in the area that wait for deliveries to local grocers and then rob them. Mathew finds them out and jumps in the back of the lorry and leaves a trail for the police.

A con artist in a soldiers uniform comes into town. He gives the grocer a donation tin and encourages the grocer to beg for donations. He also tells him that it will be collected by someone else in two days.

Mrs Flaxton has to sell some paintings to pay her taxes. An art appraiser takes one of the paintings without telling anyone. They notice the missing painting, but where is the appraiser?

Zack puts a curse on Benjamin. Terry and Benjamin are playing and Benjamin falls down a well with a ticking bomb in it. He thinks it is the curse.

What starts off as a day of fishing for the boys, ends up in a story of drama and mystery.

Preparations are being made for Guy Fawkes Day, when a telegram arrives.

It's Christmas at Flaxton Hall. Jonathan (Matthew's father) is home from the war, but where are Terry's parents who were evacuated during the war?
