Inspector Sarah enters one of the largest multi-dog households she's ever seen. Also when six dogs are caught up in a house fire, inspector Anthony comes to the rescue.

Inspector Anthony Joynes comes to the aid of a rotund Rottweiler that has been cooped up indoors by owners who have a ban on keeping animals. An elderly Akita named Bear is signed over to the charity when its owner sees she's starting to struggle with the stairs to his flat and Angellica Bell discovers what rescue dogs are capable of when she's introduced to the team at Medical Detection Dogs, who have been successfully training man's best friend to sniff out diseases such as cancer and malaria.

Inspector Sarah is called out to a shih-tzu in a sorry state in Derby, the poor little dog has matted fur and irritated skin. Meanwhile, Inspector Anthony is shocked to find a dog abandoned in a garden and barely able to walk. Plus, 10 puppies found dumped in a bin are given a second chance at life thanks to the help of the staff and volunteers at Blackberry Farm RSPCA.

In Staffordshire, inspector Charlotte comes to the aid of two border collies living in hazardous conditions as their owner is struggling to cope. Cameras also follow elderly German shepherd cross Alfie who faces a tail amputation.

Inspector Herchy Boal investigates the case of two extremely underweight dogs, Staffie crosses Rocky and Bentley. But do they just need a decent meal or is something else wrong? Alan and the team follow the transformation of Angel, a labrador cross suffering from a flea infestation. And Angellica Bell finds out what life is like as an RSPCA vet at Putney Animal Hospital.

Anthony Joynes returns to Malawi to join the LSPCA to rescue a roadside stray, go undercover investigating the illegal puppy trade, help out at an open-air surgery on World Spay Day and vaccinate a huge number of dogs against rabies.

A seasonal special edition of the animal welfare series, as presenter Alan Davies joins the team at RSPCA Putney, experiencing first-hand just what life is like treating sick and injured canines in the cold winter months. In Northumberland, hound Hardy is in need of urgent care after falling into a frozen river and on the Wirral, Anthony Joynes picks up Molly, a shih tzu with a coat so matted it is a risk to the poor dog's life.
