She starts writing in her diary. Her first entries as a preteen girl are about her love for Justin Bieber, cupcakes, and Twilight.

On the first days of high school, she bumps into Jessica.

Her locker is reassigned next to Jessica's. She remembers how they both met.

She remembers why Jessica stopped hanging out with her in middle school.

She twists her ankle on the way to class. She is 10 minutes late.

She describes her dream of the mask and the bee.

She goes to Bobby's pool party where she is the victim of a food fight started by Bobby. She spends some time with Jessica.

She hears rumors about Jessica in the girls' locker room.

She sneaks into school at night to look for Jessica's school records. The next day, she hears a new rumor about her that would keep her from coming back to school. Bobby apologizes to her.

A third rumor spreads out relating Jessica's disappearance to the absence of a substitute teacher.

A teacher confirms some of the rumors related to Jessica not coming back to school. She goes to the movies with Bobby and his friends.

She chats with Bobby after their movie date. She finds out about his family history and discovers a disturbing fact about his family.

She confronts the teacher that confirmed one of the rumors. A fourth rumor that explains Jessica's disappearance and involves Bobby's pool party comes out.

She goes to Jessica's house and finds her crying on the floor, next to the dead body of a man.

Her mom reads the last entry in her diary and calls the police. She notices Bobby riding a bike.

In order to help Jessica, she must become her.

She asks Bobby to help her alert Jessica that the police are on their way. She explains how Jessica and her attempted to move the body to the basement. And confronts her mom about why she read her diary.

She sneaks out of her house at night to check up on Jessica. She talks about Jessica's dad's illness. She watches KittenCam on YouTube.

Jessica's story appears in the evening news. Jessica hides at her house. They discuss her dad's illness and the insurance company.

She hangs out with Jessica at the park, where Jessica finishes sharing the story of her dad's illness, and an accident involving a gun.

The preparations for the Homecoming Dance begin at school. Jessica's story is on the evening news again, some contradicting details are reported.

She gets a paper note from Bobby. She talks about all the things she should be looking into to get ready for the Homecoming Dance.

She spends two nights in jail after being arrested.

She is encouraged to tell her story to the police or else they would have to get the information out of her diary.

She ponders upon different ways to get rid of the diary permanently.

Jessica hands the diary to her mom and copies are made for the police to review.

Her diary confession sets her up as the number one suspect. She will be on trial for murder.

During her trial, her mom testifies against her. She discovers a very surprising fact about Jessica.

She was found guilty, but will not be going to jail. She is sent to a mental facility instead.

Two years later, she is released from the mental facility. Her mom tracks Jessica down to invite her to pick her up.
