Eleven teams of two people travel from the Coliseum in Los Angeles, California to Salvador, Brazil.

The ten remaining teams stay in Brazil as they travel from Salvador to Fortaleza. The intensity of the race causes several teams to begin making basic mistakes that could cost them the game.

The nine remaining teams travel from Fortaleza, Brazil to La Paz, Bolivia. The high altitude makes some of them struggle for breath as they square off against a wrestling group at the Road Block. An argument about a lost item of clothing carries on to the course as two teams battle to avoid elimination.

The eight remaining teams travel from La Paz, Bolivia to Te Puke, New Zealand. Team mates clash when one person accuses the other of being a dictator. Another person wipes out at the Detour and, fearing broken bones, has to push through the pain for their team to reach the Pit Stop.

The seven remaining teams travel from Te Puke, New Zealand to Siem Reap, Cambodia. One team find themselves in trouble with the law on the way to the airport. Another team's catty behavior grates on the nerves of some other teams.

The six remaining teams travel from Siem Reap, Cambodia to Delhi, India. Mother Nature tries to foil one team when a windstorm blows away the clothes they are ironing at the Detour. A budding romance between two people from different teams causes friction. Another person lashes out when their team reaches boiling point.

The six teams remain in Delhi, India. A colourful Road Block proves to be no party for one person. While a Detour confounds teams who work on their own, two unlikely teams join forces to crack it.

The five remaining teams travel from Delhi, India to Almaty, Kazakhstan. Teams have a close encounter of the bird kind with 30,000 chickens at the Road Block. In their haste to avoid elimination, one team leaves something very important behind on their way to the Pit Stop.

The four remaining teams travel from Almaty, Kazakhstan to Moscow, Russia. One person's awkward attempt to fall in line at the Detour leaves Russia's military laughing. An expensive purchase made by a team comes back to haunt them. A romance between two people grows stronger.

The four teams remain in Moscow, Russia. One team makes an unprecedented mistake that could cost them the game.

The final three teams travel from Moscow, Russia to Portland, Oregon, struggling to complete the most challenging leg of the race when they face two time-consuming Detour choices and a task that puts their memory to the ultimate test. The first team to arrive at the finish wins the US$1 million prize.
