Tintin arrives at the village of the Arumbayas and finds the long-lost explorer Ridgewell, who is believed to be dead for many years.

A good turn Tintin does for an absent-minded sigillographer gets him involved in dangerous political intrigue in the Balkan nation of Syldavia.

Tintin and Snowy must recover the lost scepter of King Ottokar before the rightful King of Syldavia is forced to abdicate by enemy forces.

When Tintin learns that his friend, Chang (from "The Blue Lotus") was in a plane crash in the Himalayas. Tintin, Snowy, and Captain Haddock go on the dangerous and somewhat impossible journey to find him.
