Paul asks grandpa's help with his lessons about the calendar. The time machine picks up Velent, a bronze age apprentice sky-watcher. They discuss family and community life 1700BC, before the emergence of states north of the Alps. Yet astronomical knowledge, crucial for timing agriculture, was at par with Babylonia. Velent has a copy of the Mitttelsberg sky disc, a spectacular first with an extraordinary history right to its recuperation from Swiss archaeological art fencing.

Paul seeks refuge with grandpa Max for a 'stalking 'girl from his class. The time machine brings over from the early 13th century castle damsel Agnes von Weissenstein. She demonstrates the nobility's haughty attitude and elaborates on chivalry and knighthood, matters of courting and social standing linked with military training. Only nobles became knights, except in such exceptional contexts as the crusades, bloody Holy Wars, mainly against Islam.

The time machine brings Max and Paul Johann Kuene von Frankenberg, 13th century master-builder at Cologne cathedral, a 6 centuries project interrupted half that time for lack of funds but rebooted in the 19the century. After discussing his and modern skyscraper bu-construction techniques, Johann cheerfully finishes the garden barbecue Max dreams of for years.

Paul works out how grandpa Max came to 'accidentally' order too many magazines. The time machine brings a bookseller from Luther's time and town, 16th century Wittenberg (Saxony). They consider the development of printing presses, and the impact of books and pamphlets on the age's great controversy, ecclesiastic malpractices and failing church reforms, ultimately contributing to the protestant schisms, breaking away from Rome.

Paul flees to grandpa Max for his sister, a busybody aunt. Inadvertently triggered, the time machine brings them a North American Indian from the time of the European penetration, so he mistrust them. They discuss the white invasion, fatal for buffalo and Indian cultures, and the Western concept of property, then become friends.
