Chiara is a brilliant lawyer with a happy life in Rome but she left a life behind with a sister and a mother in the southern Italian town of Matera. Something makes her return to her hometown.

The body is identified but not the cause of death. Chiara does not believe it was suicide so she decides to stay Matera.

Roberto is in jail and begs Chiara to represent him in court. Chiara investigates the murder and finds another suspect.

Chiara finally believes in Roberto's innocence, but needs to prove this beyond a doubt to the court at Potenza. Meanwhile the children have their own troubles.

Giulio has an accident at school and needs a blood transfusion. Chiara and Daniele find out about the boy's parentage.

In their investigation, Chiara and Daniele come across the name of Martino Sinistcalchi, the deputy mayor of Potenza. The sisters are determined to find out more about him.
