Five years after the event of Sonic 3 and Knuckles, Sonic has to get all the Chaos Emeralds before Dr. Robotnik (now going by Eggman) gets all of them to unlock a long lost artifact: "the Shattered Emerald."

After crash landing on Angel Island, Dr. Robotnik, now going by Eggman, have ran into his old enemy Knuckles The Echidna. With everyone on Angel Island, who will be able to find the Chaos Emerald?

Team Sonic chases after Eggman, trying to take back the Chaos Emerald. But while fighting him, Sonic ends up breaking his leg. Now its up to Knuckles and Tails to take on Eggman, but who will take care of Sonic?

Desperate to get the Emerald back, Sonic rushes to Eggman leaving his sidekick behind helpless, and shocked on his return to see his "little buddy" turn into a robot.

Many hours have past since Tails had been roboticized. Sonic is grasping onto his life so he can save his little buddy. It wouldn't stop Sonic on having the worst nightmare of his life though.
