One girl drowned in the Drava in Osijek, she is very young and no one knows who she is. Police Inspector Kovac is trying to find out if it was an accident or she was killed. Local journalist Stribor is also interested in the case.

Igor Kozul, a defender and fisherman, was the first to find a drowned girl, and there is a connection with a girl who overdosed. Kozul becomes Vladimir's main suspect. Stribor suspects that Kozul could have been responsible for the two murders. Police Chief Jakic is under great pressure to solve the death of two girls.

Vladimir has to find time for himself to organize his mother's funeral. Vesna, his closest friend, and maybe a little more, covers for him at work. A psychiatrist from the Osijek hospital claims that Kozul cannot be a murderer. He has been treating Kozul for years and can explain much of Kozul's strange behavior. Visnja, a young girl caught by Vesna, told them who the victims were: Ivana and Sanja are wards of the local correctional facility. Their disappearance was not reported because they often knew how to run away from home.

Katja, the third girl is found dead. The connections between the murdered girls are slowly being revealed, as well as the connection between Croatian and Ukrainian trafficking in young girls. Olga, with Nikolai's help, tries to connect the strings and find out what happened to Katya.

Olga and Stribor are preparing to travel to Kyiv, although Horvatic opposes it. Stribor suspects that the story is bigger than three dead girls and wants to write about international aspects of the case.

The international tangle of trafficking and exploitation of young, unprotected girls is slowly beginning to unravel. But when it seems that the police have caught all the strings and found everyone involved, Vladimir, Vesna and Olga will come up with completely unexpected new evidence.
