After a whirlwind romance, Adam McFadden marries Hannah and takes her home to his ranch. Only, he neglected to mention his six brothers. When they gather around on their arrival, Hannah asks if they "live around here". The brothers answer, "not around . . . here".

Crane talks the ranchers into forming a co-op to buy grain in bulk at a better price. The grain warehouse is impounded and the ranchers can't afford more feed. Crane breaks in for the grain and lands up in court facing serious charges.

Ford wants to ask a girl to the dance, but can't quite find the nerve. Hannah is "encouraging" him strongly, a bit too strongly. A local rodeo champ is giving a workshop, but he and Evan get off on the wrong foot.

Evan's horse is injured and needs a veterinary surgeon. The surgeon is away for two weeks, but his daughter Molly is a vet and has done the surgery once before. Crane and Molly fall for each other, only Molly's waiting to hear from some surgical training programs she had applied to before she met Crane. Will Crane make her choose between her lifelong aspirations and their love?

The McFadden roof isn't keeping the rain out, it's not even slowing it down much. The family is looking to earn extra money to fix it and youngest brother Guthrie is determined not to be left out. Guthrie's solution is to pan for gold. Guthrie runs into a couple of dredgers to partner with not knowing they're actually bear poachers.

Daniel temporarily plays guitar in a band at Pony Joe's and falls in love with the band's singer, who had a brief history with Brian, so things get complicated.

Brian lets his celebrity on the town's polo team go to his head. After "a little fun" he winds up in jail on a drunk driving charge. Adam suspends him from the team for his reckless behavior on and off the field. Guthrie, who looks up to Brian, resents Adam - and the townsfolk with money on the polo match are none to happy with him either.

Evan has been learning rodeo skills in Coop Anderson's classes. The class is getting ready for an upcoming rodeo and Evan is starting to find his regular schoolwork cutting in to his practice time. He's considering dropping out of school to go on the rodeo circuit.

Guthrie becomes ill and the McFaddens discover the creek is polluted with chemical waste, so Adam reports it to the sheriff. When the sheriff says the company has a legal permit and won't pursue the matter, the brothers convince Adam to run against the sheriff in the upcoming election.

Twice divorced Sophie Barton and her son move from the city back to the family ranch. They quickly make friends with Hannah and Guthrie. The McFaddens have had a "handshake deal" to graze on the Barton ranch. When her son stampedes the cattle so they destroy her garden, Sophie and Adam are at loggerheads. Hannah and Guthrie end up caught in the middle.

Brian wants to live differently and takes a job in a logging camp, where an old cowboy and he hit it off and have adventures together until the end of the season. Evan's football coach signs him up for a ballet class to help him develop balance, but he's afraid he'll have to wear leotards. Neither brother experiences what he expects.

It's Christmas and a young widow is trying to hold on to her children. She has been on the move, just a step or two ahead of her in-laws. They are determined and wealthy; and a possessive, abusive would-be boyfriend isn't helping the situation. Crane insists on helping her. It may not be a merry Christmas for anyone unless the McFaddens can broker an agreement everyone can live with.

The old schoolhouse is due to be torn down and replaced with a processing plant. When Hannah discovers the sale may not have been legal, she organizes a protest and fights to save the old schoolhouse. Meanwhile Guthrie searches for the perfect frog to enter in the local frog jumping contest.

A business using farm laborers without papers is treating them like prisoners. When an expectant couple try to break free, the wife ends up at the McFadden ranch. The family members are split; helping her means facing the possible legal consequences.

Guthrie goes hunting with Brian, but can't accept his killing the majestic buck. Adam wants to let Guthrie make up his own mind but Brian reminds the family that their mother used to put up the meat for them to eat in winter. "Old Scarback", a mountain lion, has been killing local stock. The ranchers have hired a hunter to kill it, but Adam wants to tranquilize it. He points out that the people moved onto Old Scarback's land and the cougar is just acting like a cougar.

There is a warning out that marijuana growers have infiltrated the government forest land and locals should avoid the area. Meanwhile Guthrie is being aggressively pressured at school by the dealers who don't want to take no for an answer.

A nearby town is reporting a medical emergency. Hannah and four others with medical experience board a plane that crashes in the mountains. A storm has washed out roads and closed down all rescue attempts, except Adam, Brian, and Crane who set off on their own.

Adam finds a car that will help him win a race; Hannah announces she is pregnant.

Hannah wants Adam to attend his high school reunion. Adam not only has the reunion, he also has cattle rustlers. When the rustling goes from six head of cattle to a quarter of a million dollars' worth, Adam leaves the reunion to join the search.
