Returning to the Osprey Explorer for the first time since Ian died, Drew McAllister drops a bombshell that the well is dry, the contract terminated and the owners are abandoning the site. Izzy puts pressure on Tom to quit the rig.

A mock terrorist attack finds the rig workers locked up together with tempers becoming increasingly frayed. The situation gets out of hand when the men contact a local radio station and Cinders is released to cook.

Trainee chef Michael has started a gambling school on the rig and is losing a big. He won't listen to Cinders, a former gambler, advice, so he attempts to give him a lesson but Terry finds out. Village's father suffer a heart attack.

Village lies to the investigation team, following the crane accident, and needs Archie to back him up at the inquiry. Chris's brother, Jimmy makes a surprise visit to see Heather and highlights the cracks in their marriage.

Manager Edvard announces that changing circumstances, in the North Sea, mean a 5% pay cut for all workers. Tom begins cost cutting, at the hotel, and drives Izzy mad. Cinders finds romance with a lonely widow called Renie.

Tessa attempts to organise a benefit night to raise money for Ceefax mother's care home. Archie and Kath takes his kids on a caravan holiday. Chris and Heather decide to split as he falls for Tessa. Kevin can no longer hide his depression

As Heather celebrates exams with mates, Chris and Tessa get gossiped about on the rig. Kevin failures cause a major accident. With a new well dug there is a chance to go to Norway with Chris choosing to go instead of visiting Heather.
