Rebecka (played by a different actress than season 1), is preparing to move back to Stockholm to live with her boyfriend, Mans. The police dog handler is living with a new girlfriend, but he and Rebecka still have feelings for each other. Trouble is brewing between Sami reindeer herders and a local who takes money from rich tourists to poach on Sami land. When one of the herders is found murdered, Rebecka postpones her departure and investigates.

The family feud among the herders has now claimed a life. Rebecca and Kristen work together despite the awkwardness between them over Krister's new girlfriend.

Construction workers discover human remains under floorboards of an old building that is being demolished. The remains are of a young mother called Linn, who disappeared 16 years ago.

Lin's husband is the prime suspect, as he was 16 years ago, but there is not enough evidence to charge him. The search continues for the murder weapon.

When a young man overdoses on a new drug at a party, the police attempt to track down the dealer, but Mella does not realize her own daughter is involved.

Mella worries about her daughter's safety when an informant turns up dead after arranging to meet with Mella. After a breakdown in Stockholm, Rebecka returns to Koruna, she has important decisions to make about the future.

On an icy road in northern Sweden a woman is found dead in her car. She has a fatal blow to the head and her months old baby has frozen to death in the back seat. At first it seems like an open-and-shut case for Martinsson and the small local police department.

Mella is convinced that they have the killer, but Rebecka believes the confession is false and that he is protecting someone .
