Carlo meets Janaína, girlfriend of his step-son, Henrique. Right away he sees that she is hiding cuts on her arms and is in the habit of mutilating herself.

Carlo separates a couple fighting in a restaurant, but this sets off an unexpected and negative reaction. The lovers turn up at his office seeking help to resolve their fights.

Milton, a former patient of Carlo's, seeks him out again to try to understand the death of his wife. He believes he saw her spirit leaving her body at the moment of her death.
