A new term has arrived at Fenn Street Secondary Modern - but 5C haven't; only Maureen hasn't decided that the term is a waste of their valuable time. Meanwhile, Potter has managed to have every room emptied of its furniture.

Whilst visiting Abbott - hospitalised with appendicitis - Bernard makes an unplanned spur-of-the-moment proposal to Penny. She happily accepts, but in his semi-conscious state Abbott believes that she's a nurse and that Sir is holding some kind of orgy; his mother is certainly not amused.

Mr Price gets a week off and the rest of the teachers are not happy about it. Mr Cromwell lies and says he is getting orphans from China so the staff buy him toys. In Prices's absence Mr Hedges tries to teach Chemistry but fails.

It's career day at Fenn Street School and Mr Hedges gives a demonstration on how to behave in an interview.

Mr Smith collapses in the street and is rescued by Peter, Maureen and Frankie. Dennis is given a black eye by his father, and Mr Hedges finds a new home.

Mr Hedges fears that Maureen has run off to join a convent.

After losing the cross country run to the rival Weaver Street School, 5c decide they will make amends by helping Mr Hedges win his golf match against Weaver Street's Mr Kelp.

Miss Ewell hears some upsetting news and Mr Cromwell sees his chance to win her back. Meanwhile, Mr Potter's elicits the help of 5c with a length of carpet that should be in the headmaster's study.

As part of 5c's political education, Mr Hedges arranges a trip to the local Conservative club. However, Maureen's behaviour continues to spin out of control.

Norman potter is chosen to be the face of a national advertising campaign for beer, much to the disapproval of the Chair of Governors of the School.

Mr Hedges is thrown into a moral quandary when Frankie Abbott reveals his ideas on reproduction. Meanwhile Mr Potter offers to help decorate Bernard and Penny's new home.

Mr Hedges is growing increasingly worried about Dennis' lack of a job when he leaves school. One possibility is working as a stable boy at the local brewery, but will Dennis' father allow it?

It's the last day at school for 5c and Mr Hedges try's to play it cool and not show his emotions.

Christmas special. Bernard and Penny are getting married today. They predict that everyone will interfere with their plans to stay at the hotel, so they tell everyone they are going to Portugal for their honeymoon. When they sneak back to the hotel, they get a surprise.
