A former Scotland Yard inspector now living in LA is pestered by a fan to investigate a murder she claims has occurred but that the police dismiss as there is no evidence of the crime.

After her childhood best friend's fiancee is murdered and the family butler accused of the crime, Nikki blackmails Maxwell into taking his place and acting as the inside man in the investigation.

A boy steals Maxwell's car and was hoping that he'll get a new one. But the boy turns it over to the police and Maxwell is called to recover it. It seems the boy wanted to get Maxwell's attention. He wants Maxwell to locate his father who went missing years ago. Maxwell's approached by an FBI agent telling him the boy's father was helping them get evidence against a criminal.

Nikki investigates the murder of her new boss and all the clues seem to lead to her old flame, a former professional baseball player. Meanwhile, Maxwell struggles to write a children's book about a grumpy mongoose.

Maxwell is hired to write a tell-all book on a model recently acquitted of murdering her husband. He falls for her but Nikki begins suspecting she was actually guilty of the murder.

The duo investigates the murder of Maxwell's old friend, a morning radio host shot in a locked soundproof booth.

A spectacular murder/robbery at an art show brings Maxwell's old Scotland Yard rival Inspector Miles Cottrell to town. Trouble arises when Nikki falls for Miles' oily charm.

After Nikki is handed a baby in a supermarket by a woman on the run, she and Maxwell come between an old mobster looking for an heir and his daughter turned FBI informant.

The corpse of Maxwell's publisher Gus keeps appearing and disappearing during an afternoon-long brunch thrown in Max's honour and populated by Gus' bickering clients.

A famous actor hired to play Maxwell in a movie tails the duo on a case involving a murdered photo reporter who's uncovered corruption in a senatorial election.

Maxwell and Nikki take on a case involving a femme fatale so far investigated by three different PIs all of whom wound up dead.
