Billy Guthrie's career is in jeopardy after punching fellow barrister Leo Wilson after racist comment he made about Head of Chambers Wendy de Souza. Trainee barrister Morag Black is thrown in the deep end with major criminal.

Just three days after giving birth, Rose returns to court to defend a mother from losing her children to her rich partner. Alex has to use all his skills to save his friend Billy's career following his fight with Leo Wilson.

Michael Marlowe offers Billy a way out of his assault charge if he agrees to join his chambers. Alex cheats on his girlfriend Helen with barrister Stevie Goode. Wendy turns down Judge Martin Bould offer to fast track her to Q.C.

Defending Frank Green for murder, Rose asks Billy to be her junior but he discovers something to undermine her case. McLeish attempts to keep a lid on Alex and Stevie's romance. Hussein Ali's arrival leaves Morag's future uncertain.

Wendy waits to see if she will get "Silk" and become a Q.C. but matters get personal when she defends a racist. Tom gets close to Alex ex-girlfriend Helen while clerk Johnny Boy breaks an unwritten rule and takes out pupil Morag.

Rose and Wendy to different strategies when they defend a pair of Colombian drug mules, in front of Judge Martin. Marlowe puts pressure on Billy to confirm that Wendy and the Judge are intimate forcing a mistrial which could destroy both.

McLeish discovers Billy's betrayal, of Wendy's relationship with Judge Martin Bould, which saw the drug trial collapse and his out for blood. Things get worse when Marlowe threatens to go to the press if Billy doesn't resign immediately.

Rose and Tom defend the Green brothers who are on trial for a gangland murder. Alan Green decides to turn against his brother Frank much to Rose's surprise. Johnny Boy's infatuation with Morag begins to effect his judgement

Rose is furious that McLeish organised a cut throat defence and begins to gain support to remove him. Hussein and Morag are fighting for one vacancy but as Rose' pupil she is getting no work. Alex love life begins to catch up with him.

Rose's attempt to remove Peter McLeish has failed. However his past catches up with him and he could still lose everything. Turning to Rose he gambles everything by going in the witness box. Helen has to chose between Alex and Tom.
