Everybody makes fun of Laurie for her new overly-dramatic actor boyfriend. Norm is forced to make a deal with Denby to respect him around the office and get the others to fall into line.

Shelly has returned from Colorado. After finding journal pages in the printer, Norm thinks Shelly is in love with him but she denies it. Danny wants to propose to Taylor. Denby must move into the work area while his office is worked on.

Danny proposes to Taylor and Norm worries Danny will find out Taylor's hidden feelings and be crushed.

In order to get Shelly to like him again, Norm agrees to help her with a group of troubled young teenage girls. Naturally, Norm creates a mess. Denby sees it as an opportunity for Norm to get his comeuppance but Norm protects Shelly.

In order to get Shelly to like him, Norm plans to attend a party dressed as a fireman. But he's already agreed to take some kids from a dangerous neighborhood Trick-or-Treating. He struggles at what to do. Danny makes over his new love.

Norm tries to convert Laurie's lesbian friend.

Norm pokes fun of Laurie for dating a much younger man, and after Laurie tells him he couldn't get a younger girl, he gets one just to prove Laurie wrong, but things don't work out how he'd hoped.

Laurie becomes paranoid her relationship with the much younger Dale will end badly. Danny learns he's related to a famous mass-murdering despot of history. Norm gets a new older girlfriend but little does he know there's a surprise ahead.

Norm sets Laurise up at the last second with a doctor who is a patron at the bar so he can go play tennis with Shelly, but when Norm is a bad winner, Shelly becomes a tennis monster.

Norm is upset to not be part of a plan where Laurie, Danny, Shelly, Denby and Mary the alcoholic are each taking one kid from a family of 5 foster kids for a week as they transition to a new home. Things change and Norm gets hoodlum Billy.

It looks like Billy may have some foster parents. Norm and Denby start their social worker classes as ordered by a panel a few episodes earlier.

Artie uses an electric device that shocks the muscles, to help him lose weight, but there are unintended consequences. Norm selfishly uses group therapy to get Shelly to like him again, but while there learns there might be more between him and Denby than they thought. Norm's dad suddenly shows up after being missing from his life for years.

After Norm's dad shows up after being out of his life for a long time, Norm and Artie regress and seek his approval. Danny has feelings for Shelly. After Shelly and Denby go to a symphony, Denby convinces himself Shelly is red hot for him.

Danny makes his move on Shelly, but is wary of her ex, Norm. After Denby's last shred of dignity is destroyed, he quits. Shortly afterward, Laurie becomes the new boss but she is unhappy in the new position, wanting Denby back.

Laurie teaches Denby to dance.

When Danny learns Norm is now dating Taylor, Danny confronts him, saying he is just doing so to get back at him for dating Shelly. Norm denies it but wonders. Also, Denby rails about the condition of the men's room vs. the ladies restroom.

Norm owes rent but has a raise from Denby. Norm learns Denby's poodle Fifi is pregnant. He's sure Weiner Dog sired her. The pups are of both breeds. Denby rejects them but later dubiously asks for them. Danny tries to make up with Shelly.

Norm's friendship with Laurie becomes strained now that he is homeless and living with her. A girl from Norm's high school that he had a crush on, shows up at the office and has similar feelings for him. Norm accidentally gets Denby kicked out of his apartment. Danny and Denby try to get women on a business trip.

In order to avoid insurance fraud, Norm pretends to be in love with Laurie. Laurie uses this to get a guy she's been after to become interested. Shelly is annoyed when she learns Norm and Laurie are an item, which leads to a revelation.

Norm and Laurie are forced to watch after Hector, a Cuban orphan who sneaked into the country, while the governments decide what to do with him. Laurie turns out to be a lousy mother, though she's completely unaware of it.

Norm pranks Denby, embarrassing him in front of his grandson. Contrite, Norm befriends Denby only for Denby to attribute his intentions as manipulating him for early release from the community service he was required to do to avoid jail.

Norm resigns from the social service office, becoming a celebrity endorser for a predatory rent to own store. When he witnesses a former client being exploited and hears Denby's boss is taking away all the clients' benefits, he has a plan.

In the series finale Norm asks Shelly out and she says yes. He plans their date when Shelly introduces to the office a friend Travis from Colorado, saying he is in town visiting. Norm reacts and she warns him about his issue with jealousy.
