For the destruction of the camp of Sturmbannfuehrer Neumann, Evgeniya Zvonareva, the leading pilot of the female aviation regiment, is awarded the Order of Kutuzov. But Zhenya owes the success of this operation to her friend Galya Shevchenko, recently the best night bomber. For disrupting a combat mission, she was demoted to mechanics until the tribunal was sentenced. Now Zhenya is facing an extremely dangerous task - to destroy the enemy station with ammunition and fuel. It was decided to involve in the operation a sabotage group led by Captain Aleksandr Makeev.

Zhenya asks Marina Raskova to intercede for Galya. Raskova gives the order to release Shevchenko from the tribunal and reinstate her as navigator under the command of Zvonareva. Makeev and his group will have to steal secret documents from a courier guarded by a cortege of twenty submachine gunners in trucks. To complete the assignment, brave pilots are involved, who must bombard objects and divert the attention of the guards.

A Soviet intelligence officer who had worked for a long time under the name of Major Feller flees from the German rear. He has in his hands secret documents containing information on plans for fortifications and mines of the entire enemy front. The scout manages to join the partisans, but the detachment falls into a trap. The command decides to unite the groups of Makeev and Zvonareva. Saboteurs must capture an impromptu German airfield, and the girls must land in the German rear and deliver Feller to headquarters.

General Nenarokov arrives from the army headquarters. The command received information about a secret facility at which chemical weapons are being tested. The allies of the USSR agree to support the ultimatum to the German leadership on the reciprocal use of chemical weapons, but evidence is needed that the Wehrmacht is ready to use toxic substances. Aerial reconnaissance needs to obtain information about a secret object and find a weak point in the ring of the German encirclement.

Makeev's group rescues a captured soldier Smereko from the chemical weapons testing area. He was among the test subjects and was able to survive thanks to the stolen protective mask. Smereko reports on the mass poisoning and death of people, including many women and children. Zvonareva proposes to destroy the zone from the air. But Nenarokov needs strong evidence of the experiments. Shevchenko proposes to pass over the lake with a warm spring at a minimum height and drop scouts into the water without parachutes. The operation is risky, but there is no other way out.

The scouts and pilots who distinguished themselves during the operation, consisting of six people, are sent to the capital to be presented for awards. Then the order bearers will have a week's rest in the boarding house, which receives the most dignified guests. At this time, German saboteurs, disguised as the commander and radio operator of the transport aircraft, on which the scouts will fly, are preparing an operation to eliminate them in order to penetrate the boarding house. The task of the Germans is to destroy the command staff of the Soviet army.

Major of the Wehrmacht Otto Link intends to take revenge from the Soviet pilots who thwarted his operation and destroyed a group of saboteurs. At the divisional headquarters, he demonstrates to his superiors a night vision device installed in the Messer's cockpit, which allows the plane to navigate freely in the dark and be invisible from the outside. The Germans know that in the near future an attack by the Soviet infantry is being prepared on the bridgehead. A big surprise awaits Soviet bombers - an invisible Messer.

The "Messer" hit by the pilots falls in the forest, but does not explode. Both Germans and Soviet scouts are hunting for a night vision device built into its control panel. The creator of the device, the German scientist Holts, sets out in search of his brainchild. The plane is in a swampy area, which greatly complicates matters. Holts calculates the steps of the enemy and waits for the swallows to begin aerial reconnaissance.
