Henrik recovers after a very promising spine surgery which should end his crippling. So protege Benjamin Kuttner finally get his first lead. Renovations in an East Berlin residence with plenty of party apparatchiks ,reveal the corpse of Lore Menzel, apparently crushed by the Soviet tanks repressing the 17 June 1953 rebellion at Stalin's death. Katrin is preoccupied, now the ransom for her brother Konstantin was found, with the possible involvement of her father Rudolph.

In a former SED party members residence, the severed head is found of the corpse of Christian Gerlach, a gay rights activist missing since 1983, when he was involved in a media scandal. The state prosecution office shows informal interest. He was the secret gay partner of then disgraced and 'for family time' resigned Berlin city state justice 'senator' (minister) Norbert Lenz, against whom he was expected to testify. Gerlach's own family is also screened critically, as well as the then still quasi-clandestine gay scene. Dr. Katrin Stoll finally tackles her suspicions ...
