Hachiman Hikigaya is a pessimistic and pragmatic loner who has the ideal that "youth" is wasted on those who deceive themselves by its innocent bliss. He is forced by his language teacher Shizuka Hiratsuka to join the school's Service Club in order to improve his social nature. Hachiman meets the club's only other member, Yukino Yukinoshita and immediately enters a debate regarding the flaws of their respective personalities since Yukino believes in telling people the truth regardless of how harsh it may seem. The fun continues with the introduction of Yui Yuigahama ...

Zaimokuza Yoshiteru was once Hikigaya's gym partner. He is also dramatically reliving one of his historical fantasies, so what happens when he shows up at the club with a draft of his novel, ready to be reviewed?

As Hachiman continues to hone his skills in the art of being left alone, another student comes to him with a new request for the club.

Hachiman has a small crisis concerning little sisters and what they mean. Afterward he receives a mysterious text, outlining the club's next student request.

Hachiman's sister is asked for advice from her classmates. Apparently she has been acting strange lately, and the Service Club intends to find out why.

Shizuka announces that Hachiman and Yui must go on a recruitment drive to find more members, and they know exactly who to target.

Hachiman tries his best to relax during Summer break but constant texts from Shizuka concerning the Service Club activities prevents him from doing so.

Shizuka readies a bonfire and a "test of courage." Later, Yui recognizes the limo that hit Hachiman.

Yui invites Hachiman and Komachi to the annual summer fireworks festival. The pair run into Haruno, who uses the opportunity to explain a little of the complicated relationship between herself and Yukino.

Yui notices a rift forming between Hachiman and Yukino. Hachiman is nominated to serve on the committee for the school's upcoming cultural festival.

Hachiman and Yui check on Yukino. Later, Hachiman shakes things up with the committee when he decides to alter their mindset.

Soubu High's Cultural Festival continues and Hachiman is stuck carrying out his duty as a committee member by documenting the day's events on film.

A mysterious request to helm the upcoming sports festival arrives. The group must band together to figure out a way to pull it off.

Hiratsuka-sensei asks the volunteer club to help her contribute to a local magazine themed around marriage. Since none of them, knows anything about the subject, they ask someone who has experience "taking care of useless deadweight".
