Murphy decides not to work for the White House and goes back to her old job at FYI. All is well again until she finds out thanks to the news piece that was assigned to her that she may have breast cancer.

While Murphy goes to do more medical tests, the FYI team focuses on a complex expose on a grocery chain.

Murphy informs her FYI colleagues about her illness, and faces a decision about her treatment.

Murphy's FYI colleagues try to keep her trip to hospital for surgery a secret from the public, especially the paparazzi, while trying to break the news to Avery.

Murphy is recovering from her lumpectomy, and Corky volunteers to be her nurse for a bit, which Murphy reluctantly agrees to.

Murphy is feeling the negative effects of chemotherapy and tries marijuana to ease her symptoms.

Murphy grudgingly goes to her archrival Athena Killington's party, and tries to decide whether to end their feud.

Murphy dates a younger man, even though even her circle of friends finds it inappropriate.

Corky takes over an interview for Murphy and does great. The network decides to sign a new long-term contract with her, while offering Murphy only a one-year deal.

Murphy decides to do some of the things from her bucket list. One of them is to conduct a symphony orchestra, but Olivia Newton-John stands in her way. Jim sees a possible reconciliation with Doris.

The FYI team goes to the office terrace to catch some fresh air and discuss news story ideas. They become trapped there.

Murphy supports a benefit run for breast cancer research, despite the fact that the run is paid for by a former Wall Street trader who went to jail for insider trading but has supposedly changed his ways since.

Murphy turns to a cancer support group after her friends are unable to help her deal with her illness.

The FYI team helps Murphy deal with insomnia by keeping her company in shifts throughout the night.

Kay encourages staffers to pick their best clips for a "Then and now" special for the network. As a result of remembering times past, Murphy takes Frank and heads out of town to revisit her childhood home in Philadelphia.

Frank prepares a big surprise for Murphy's 50th birthday that involves the American Bandstand.

Murphy's old flame Jerry Gold turns up, and the two sleep together, but she's then stunned to learn he's engaged. He even asks her to be his best man, which drives Murphy mad.

Feeling nostalgic, Murphy tracks down the high school crush of her friend Lisa, which inspires the FYI team to do the same for her. Murphy's high school musical castmate now works as a lounge singer.

Kay dresses up as a man to prove a point. She fools everyone into thinking that she is one, so Murphy uses her to get rid of an IRS tax accountant who keeps hitting on Murphy, only to realize that she needs his insider information.

Airport security finds a bag of medicinal marijuana on Jim. As a good friend, he refuses to tell them or anyone else that it's actually for Murphy and gets into serious trouble.

Murphy needs another surgery. When she goes to sleep on the operating table, she awakens in Heaven, where she's greeted by God.

Murphy interviews God. Meanwhile, the FYI crew assumes that Murphy is leaving the FYI for good, so they plan what to do next with their careers. The show ends with an epilogue that wraps most things up.
