When his boss survives a car bomb meant for someone else, Michael Hayes becomes the Acting U.S. Attorney. The bombing leads back to a kickback scheme where some of the suspects are highly placed and even close friends.

The first act of Acting U.S. Attorney Michael Hayes is to bring charges against all the bad cops in the District 26 precinct. All done while Hayes also deals with family and death.

Hayes looks into an HMO firm, hoping to get a government contract. What he uncovers is an eight year old boy with leukemia and his doctor with a story of deceit and harassment. Meanwhile brother Danny connects with his wife Caitlin.

When a bomb explodes, Hayes has to come up with a way to circumvent a deathbed confession that falls under the Catholic seal of confession. At the same time his nephew is getting ready to take his First Holy Communion.

A kidnapping case, handled by the FBI, comes under review when the "Hero," who rescued the kid, sues the Bureau for harassment. Danny Jr. shows up alone at his uncle's office after threatening men come looking for his father.

An AFT agent is murdered and the killer apprehended. But, Hayes faces push back on The First Amendment when he puts a Talk Radio Personality on trial for instigating the hit.

Russian Mobsters are causing Hayes headaches and heartaches over fuel and tax evasion. On the home-front Micheal kicks Danny out after accusations are thrown around.

Hayes tries to protect Enslaved Chinese Aliens but runs into resistance from the victims themselves and the INS.

In order to take down Mob Boss Frankie Malatesta, Hayes has to swap cases with former girlfriend defense lawyer Julie Siegel, at the expense of colleague Lindsay Straus. However, the case is derailed by a voluntary restaurant owner.

Picking up from the last episode, Michael decides to go after Alphonse Novello for premeditated murder. Meanwhile, Lindsay and Jenny work a powder-keg of a case involving the death of a Jewish man, by a Black man.

Internal investigations are made into cases involving drugs, sexual harassment and even Hayes' girlfriend Julie Siege. An infestation of cockroaches might be the key to solving them.
