Shimizu tries to find Goro after hearing he's returned from Japan. Toshiya tells Goro about the Baseball World Cup being held in America next spring.

Shimizu is furious with Goro for standing her up. After talking to Taiga at Seishu High the next day, Goro realizes that Shimizu has feelings for him.

Goro is fired up about his plan to make it onto Japan's national baseball team. Shimizu drops by Goro's house after having trouble contacting him.

Goro feels the need to improve his curve-ball after Kyoshiro easily sends it flying, but has difficulty doing so. He then receives advice from Nemoto.

The practice game between the national and youth teams begins. Coach Sasaki announces that the winner will represent Japan in the Baseball World Cup.

Goro and Toshiya grow frustrated with each other during the practice game. Hoping to restore the chemistry between them, Yakushiji speaks to Toshiya.

Shimizu travels to Florida alone to support Goro as he tries to make the majors. On her way to meet him, however, her rental car breaks down.

The second round of the Baseball World Cup begins in Los Angeles. Meanwhile, news of Goro's selection for the national team causes a stir back home.

Fuming after his encounter with Silva at the airport, Goro is determined to show the Venezuelan shortstop what Japanese baseball is all about.

Goro takes the mound against Venezuela in the bottom of the sixth inning. Toshiya's lack of focus quickly leads to Japan giving up a double steal.

Tendo criticizes the coaching staff after the game for not using him as the closer against Venezuela. Japan takes on its next opponent: South Korea.

Japan faces elimination if it loses to the Dominican Republic, but due to a certain rule, Goro is unable to pitch. Shimizu meets a Japanese girl.

The game against the Dominican Republic enters its final innings. Japan escapes a dangerous pinch with Mayumura on the mound but still needs to score.

Miho confesses her true identity to Shimizu and the real reason she came to America. Meanwhile, Goro meets Momoko and Shingo at the airport.

Japan faces Cuba in the knockout stage and is quickly put to the test by its opponent's various curve-balls. Goro spots a familiar face in the crowd.

Gibson Jr. tries to prevent his father from playing because of his health condition. Despite the risk to his life, Gibson remains determined to pitch.

Gibson insists on taking the mound when America falls in danger of losing to Venezuela. Aware of his condition, America's coach is hesitant to oblige.

Goro rushes to the hospital upon hearing of Gibson's accident after the game against Venezuela. Gibson reveals why he continues to pitch.

The Baseball World Cup final begins. Mayumura is named the starting pitcher for Japan, but he has a surprising revelation for Goro before the game.

Gibson slips out of the hospital to support his team in person. Inspired by his sudden presence, America begins playing to its full potential.

Despondent after his pitches are hit by consecutive batters, Goro is soon re-energized by his teammates. The game enters the top of the ninth inning.

Gibson takes the mound for America. Finally able to achieve his dream, Goro goes all out as he and Gibson give the crowd a spectacular pitcher's duel.

Now in the 16th inning, Japan has a chance to win with a runner on third base. Toshiya attempts to take Gibson by surprise with a risky play.

The tournament reaches its epic conclusion. After the game, Goro visits the hospital to check on Gibson's status, and Toshiya reunites with Miho.

A dejected Goro considers quitting baseball now that he will never be able to face Gibson again. Taken aback, Shimizu is unsure of what to do.
