Reini reluctantly agrees to go out on a date with Dick. A patient recognizes director De Bak as a gambling acquaintance. Irene's husband Thomas ends up in MCW after a car accident.

Thomas is dying and Irene has found out he was having an affair with her own sister. Despite being guarded by a police officer, young criminal Evert Smit manages to escape from MCW.

Evert Smit returns to MCW with a shot wound and a similarly wounded police officer. Eric tries to blackmail De Bak concerning the latter's gambling problems. Irene, now a widow, decides to move to Australia.

Herman Ploegstra has accidentally been shot dead in a skirmish with the police. He is replaced by Guus Tolhuis. Reini's friend Marja Groeneveld is taken into MCW. Eva suspects patient Bert Postema has been beating his son.

Paul wants to marry Merel while there is still time for hem to be together. Suzanne asks Pieter to move in with her, despite her long standing fear of men. But then she is assaulted by a stranger in the basement of her own flat.

Paul and Merel have decided to move to Portugal. This means either Eric or Jan can take his place, but neither of them have the means to afford this. Ingrid is suspicious of Eva's interest in Jan. Marja Groeneveld has lost the will to live.

Reini agrees to take care of Marja's daughter as per her last request. Marianne Teegelaar tries to seduce Jan van der Wouden and later accuses him of rape. Middle aged Trudi is about to meet her much younger pen pal for the first time.

Suzanne is receiving threatening phone calls at work. Eric insists that openly homosexual male nurse Guus takes a HIV test. Ingrid decides to break up with Jan.

Lucy runs away from home, thinking she has caused trouble between Reini and Dick. A drug addicted prostitute patient knows something about Eric. A pair of twin brothers, one in a coma, the other having a nervous breakdown, end up in MCW.

Simon is suffering heart trouble. Ingrid gives Eva her blessing to begin an affair with Jan. When comatose Adriaan Schapers dies by suffocation, his brother Koos becomes the prime suspect. Eric is supplying patient Patricia Keizer with drugs to keep her quiet. Suzanne has spotted her stalker in MCW and wants Pieter to follow him.

Liza and Dr. Berghof operate on Simon's heart. Eva and Jan have fallen for each other. Suzanne's stalker has given himself away, but the police still don't take her accusations seriously. Eric confesses his adultery to Ellen.

Linda tells Eric to move out. Johan Breeveld wants to make amends with his estranged son before undergoing a tricky operation. A local bartender and one of customers get into a fight and both end up in MCW. Eva is pregnant by Jan.

Dick wants to try out the experimental new medicine CHK on Johan Breeveld. Eva is considering an abortion in favor of her medical career. The still recuperating Simon is confronted by Liza's jealous soon to be ex-husband. Eric threatens to kill himself if Linda won't take him back.
