Upon hearing that Roy Markham's (Ray Milland's) good friend, Jim Donovan, has been shot and killed on the steps of U.S. Embassy in Cairo, Markham and his partner John Riggs (Simon Scott) fly to Washington to investigate. Markham believes Boris Vascou (Anthony Eustrel), the "Vanishing Assassin," murdered his friend over information Donovan planned to share with the U.S. government about the country where he had been working as an oil engineer: "Kaleda," a small, oil-rich kingdom on the Persian Gulf. Its ruler, Prince Hassan III, is due to arrive in Washington shortly ...

A priceless painting by "van Goff" is stolen from a New York museum and a watchman is killed. The insurance company hires Markham to find it, and a mysterious letter lures him to a town called Santa Maria. Will he find the painting there?

During a revolution in Costa Dora, a casino magnate was murdered by a crime syndicate because they thought he had half a million dollars in cash. Afterwards, his daughter attracts the attention of the U.S. Bureau of Internal Revenue by spending money lavishly in Paris. Markham is approached by the Bureau to investigate and find the money.

A young woman contacts Markham after moving in with an elderly aunt she hadn't seen since childhood. The niece fears that the old lady is being robbed by an unscrupulous medium whose séances bring back the spirit of the woman's long-dead son. Markham attends one of the sittings and immediately pegs the spiritualist as a phony; he also finds the aunt to be a little too theatrical to be a sheltered old hermit.

A modest clerk working for an international mining company is stalked and beaten on the streets of Montreal. She accuses one of the executives in her office of doing it. Did he?

A consigliere has retired from the mob -- which you can't do -- and has been in hiding for years. Consequently, he has missed out on his daughter growing up. Now, he wants to see her one last time before his former clients catch up to him.

Markham must find out what connects three crank bombings?

Markham is engaged by an insurance firm to investigate a series of jewel robberies. The thieves appear to be following directions given in a newspaper gossip column, which gives Markham a solid lead until his potential informant falls victim to the criminals.

A beautiful woman comes to Markham's hotel room at night toting a gun and offering him a wad of cash to prove she didn't kill a man. Next day, Markham is arrested for murder. To prove his innocence, he will have to find the real killer.

Nicky Schueller, a supposedly successful financier, kills himself while hosting a party in his home the night before his wedding. His employer hires Markham to find the money he embezzled.

Markham is asked to protect a young girl.

A young wife is cleared of foul play in the disappearance of her abusive husband. But what happened to the husband? And why are objects suddenly disappearing from the house?

Several months after an expert stamp counterfeiter is found dead, counterfeit stamps are still being found that resemble his work. Also, two men are found murdered at his former boarding house.

A refined gentleman meets a young blonde on an NYC street when they suddenly witness a murder. The gentleman is also quickly dispatched while the blonde flees. The gentleman's wife calls in Markham to find her missing husband.

Roy travels to Mexico to help an old Priest friend who's boy is falsely charged with murder.

An unknown disease infects the crew of a research ship.

A wealthy shipping tycoon kills his young lover in a jealous rage. He uses his power to frame one of the victim's young lovers, but a wrench is thrown in his plan when the police suspect his son, who is yet another of the woman's lovers.

A law school friend asks Roy Markham to quash rumors that his lady friend, the Bel-Air resident, killed her husband. The coroner ruled her husband's death a suicide. Roy is able to warn his friend that it was murder.

Markham goes undercover as a diamond thief to retrieve a beautiful woman back to the U.S. from Mozambique so that she can testify against her mobster boyfriend.

Markham comes home to find an unconscious, rich heiress and her three armed kidnappers. The crooks demand $500,000 for her return and know that her father will contact Markham for help since he'd worked for the family before. Knowing that they'll be killed after the ransom is paid, Roy schemes to overtake their captors with a well-timed explosion.

Markham is enjoying a Hawaiian vacation on Oahu when he meets up with an old friend who believes his young wife is trying to kill him.
