Twenty-year-old Nina moves from Leicester to London to care for the children of a bohemian literary editor. News about one of their neighbours leads to an awkward encounter for Nina.

Her two young charges prove difficult for Nina to keep track of, leading to an awkward conversation and an even more awkward date down at the local pub.

A series of chance encounters with Nunney convince Nina that their relationship must be fated. Meanwhile, Joe seems unwell so Nina reads to him from a book Nunney lent her, pretending it's Enid Blyton.

Nina befriends her fellow nanny Amanda, but the pair suffer an embarrassing incident when they attend a yoga class - an incident made worse when Amanda shares news of the incident with the family.

When Nina has an accident and crashes George's car she sets in motion a series of mishaps that threaten her continuing employment as nanny to the boys.
