An elite unit of the Los Angeles Police Department attempts to rescue a young girl and bring her kidnappers to justice.

Noreen Crawford confides in her parish priest about her husband Frank's pathological aversion to religion which he blames for their disintegrating marriage. Meanwhile Lt. Adams and his team are on the hunt for a sniper who targets churches and religious iconography.

Lt. Adams' professionalism is challenged when he doggedly investigates a hit and run case in which Lois McHenry is severely injured. Meanwhile Arthur Grissom, the panicked driver, contemplates surrendering to the police, but is badgered into keeping quiet by his wife.

Karl Lippert has two problems, on the lam after a robbery that resulted in murder, he's brought his wife with him, and the police are trying to locate her because she is taking medicine that has accidentally been switched with a deadly poison.

Key men at an electronics firm are being murdered, but no motive can be discerned. Lt. Adams enlists the help of psychiatrist Buel Reed, who explains the killer may actually want to be caught, and can be, if only the clues present can be understood.

After a woman's body is found in a fish pond on an industrialist's estate, Adams and his men investigate and discover a complex case involving blackmail and a pair of suspicious suicides.

A woman is found injured outside of a hospital and manages to say Norma before dying. When Mal Sayer reports his wife missing, Abbott learns that she knew someone named Norma.

At an old folks home, a woman working undercover for the police is murdered, and the owners of the home are the prime suspects, as they have scammed their residents in the past. When they try to run away, it seems all but certain they're guilty, but Adams believes the killer is one of the home's residents.

A rash of dog poisonings in the community culminates in tragedy when a little boy accidentally consumes some of the tainted food. Lt. Adams and the Metropolitan squad have only a matter of hours to find the culprit, identify the poison, and get an antidote.

Lt. Adams and the Metropolitan squad face a triple threat of criminals and their crimes in one day. They're in pursuit of a kidnapper who has snatched a young girl, a robber, and an elusive murderer. Their investigation ultimately leads them out of the city and into the mountains above Malibu as they attempt to bring the killer to justice.

The Metropolitan Squad pursues a man who killed a housewife. The killer tricked the housewife to letting him in her house, making her believe he was a friend of her husband. The killer selects his victims after picking up information from people who have given a ride while he hitchhikes. Now, a woman who was assaulted by the killer earlier comes forward as new clues emerge about his M.O. Adams and his men race to find the killer before he can strike again.

Down on her luck dancer Connie Weems is hospitalized as an attempted suicide case. When the Metropolitan squad launches an investigation into her suicide attempt, the case leads them to Dr. Cameron Hill, a greedy charlatan who has been posing as a doctor and illegally treating Connie.

The Metropolitan squad is called to a Hollywood soundstage to investigate an apparently accidental shooting. When it becomes apparent that the accident was in fact a murder, Lt. Adams makes a connection to a similar case at the same movie studio.

A liquor store stakeout takes a dangerous turn when Lt. Adams is forced to exchange gunfire with a suspect who turns out to be Johnny Crafts, a well-liked high school student excelling in sports and academics. Public opinion turns sharply against Adams when tests indicate that Johnny didn't fire a gun and there's no bullet to be found.

A drug-addicted girl has a Mexican boyfriend that wants to somehow get her off heroin, and away from the vicious pusher who runs a shabby office in a run down neighborhood. Adams and his squad have a plan to bust the traffickers that involves them both, but The problem for the man is that since he's in America illegally, he fears involvement with the police.

The Metropolitan squad is called to the home of Bert and Carol Willits after their nurse reports a missing baby; however, the Willits deny a kidnapping has taken place. Unknown to the police, the Willits have obtained the infant through unscrupulous attorney Mark Hobbins, who represents an illegal adoption ring, and he suspects the Willits' baby has been taken by Ellen Redding, the natural mother.

The Met Squad is saddled with the almost impossible task of tracking down a Native American man who unknowingly is a typhoid carrier.

Underworld kingpin Frank Luchek sends professional hit-man Deacon Lee to kill rival gangster Benny Kohler for encroaching on his business. In the murder attempt, Lt. Adams' partner is accidentally killed, and Adams faces disciplinary action from the department.

Following the murder of partner Sergeant Steiner, Lt. Adams doggedly pursues his theory that Frank Luchek was responsible for hiring the gunman who committed the crime, but he faces obstacles as Luchek has established himself as a respectable member of society.

Elderly but young at heart Martin Enders is forced into retirement by the factory where he has worked for years. So devastated by its loss Enders makes it his goal in life to spare other retirees the same fate -by sending homemade package bombs on the eve of their retirement.

Visiting Welsh writer Martin Dogelly becomes the victim of a series of death threats as his new play is set to open. Lt. Adams and the Metropolitan squad investigate and discover that Dogelly's threats might be close to home as his wife Margaret, the plays leading actors, and Dogelly's manager all have reason to want him dead.

Lt. Adams finds that his latest case is one close to home. His thirteen year old daughter Kathy and her classmate Vinnie Kincaid have been caught with a pornographic book. Kathy swears it isn't hers, and Vinnie says Kathy sold it to him. The incident sets the Metropolitan squad on a trail leading to Louis Morley.

An outbreak of disastrous fires might be the random work of a pyromaniac, but Adams can't be sure until clues prove that valuable, insured merchandise was somehow spared. It's the work of a professional firebug, decimating stores and property to order for a well organized arson ring.

An old friend of Adams, Floyd Blaylock, who was his sergeant from the Korean War, is in town and making trouble. Though he is a decorated hero for saving Adams's life, he's deeply scarred from his experiences psychologically and seeks to assuage imagined guilt by committing dangerous acts.

Several women are suspects when the body of a notorious bank robber is discovered behind the wheel of his getaway car.

The mechanics of police procedures are explored as the Metropolitan squad investigates a series of murders. A vigilante gunman is killing the city's juvenile delinquents. The squad is tasked with identifying a motive and searching for the person responsible.

A German refugee runs a Hofbräu near the waterfront, but he's harassed by a Norwegian family of fishermen who accuse him of Nazi war guilt. Things come to a violent head when one of them is murdered-with a swastika-marked dagger in his back. Lt. Adams doubts such an obvious clue.

Sergeant Cavelli's longtime friend Maria Daniels confides in him about her husband's jealous rages and is convinced he poses a serious threat to her. Although he doesn't take the threat seriously Cavelli and the squad endeavor to watch over Maria while off-duty and ultimately uncover evidence in the most providential of places.

Young lovers Karen and Ronnie face strong opposition from Karen's father. When the two decide they have no choice but to elope, Karen steals from her family in order to finance their independence, and the Metropolitan squad becomes involved in the crime.

Adams and his team are providing security at a convention, but the scope of their duties changes when a model who was there to provide 'entertainment' for the guests is killed in a fall from a balcony.

Sergeant Cavelli is up against nemesis Bobby Madero, a young hood with a fiercely protective mother. Cavelli has tried to put Madero away for good, but always failed. When the reckless thug shoots a girl and leaves his brother to die in a wrecked car, Cavelli thinks he has him at last, but does he?

Housewife Vivian Cowley shops compulsively for herself and her sixteen year old daughter. When her husband Walter tries to curtail her spending, Vivian decides to finance her purchases by forging checks using the names of customers who patronize Walter's grocery store.

An erudite murderer has been luring lonely spinsters to their deaths with tales of love and romantic destinations. He knows about traveling, he's left a string of such killings across the country-now he's in Los Angeles, where his latest victim-to-be is warned in time, yet she refuses to believe the police, no matter what.

A look inside the disturbed mind of Peter Capples highlights this tale of mental illness. Capples has lost a succession of jobs and is slowly going mad from a persecution complex that physically distorts his view of others. At the center of his problems are the Condons, a vindictive couple who have targeted Capples in a smear campaign that includes accusations of child molestation.

The Metropolitan squad investigates an attempted arson at a suburban home belonging to the Kingman family who appear to be the target of neighbors uneasy about their young son's developmental problems. As the investigation gets underway, it becomes apparent that Fred Kingman also has issues about his boy -he thinks the child should be sequestered away from the outside world.

Cunning criminal Virgil Payne, posing as a serious art collector, hatches a plan to steal a fortune in negotiable securities, and to discharge the heist he assembles a motley crew of ex convicts. Lt. Adams and the Metropolitan squad find themselves in a battle of wits as they attempt to capture Payne and his crew.
