The owner of an rundown apartment building is killed during a burglary and Harry Hooperman (an Inspector with San Francisco Police Dept.) inherits the building and her beloved (and nasty) dog Bijoux.

Bijoux is put on trial for attacking a mailman and will be destroyed unless Hooperman can prove he is a drug sniffing police dog.

After Smith breaks off their relationship, Hooperman is asked out by a television reporter. DeMott and Silardi agree to allow a famous actor ride with them. Stern is reluctant to take back her estranged husband.

Hooperman is forced to release a suspect for a brutal rape because he is a witness in a federal trial.

Hooperman turns to a psychic to uncover the identity of a dead man; the nephew of Hooperman's deceased landlord decides to contest her will.

Hooperman and McNeil go undercover to stop a series of grocery store holdups.

Hooperman goes undercover to bust a loan shark with the wire being placed in a very unconventional place. Stern reluctantly tries an escort service and is surprised when she sees who her escort is.

A wealthy Sheik puts Hooperman in charge of showing around his spoiled 19-year old daughter. DeMott and Silardi go undercover as a married couple in order to bust a baby broker.

Hooperman tries to get through to a suicidal AIDS suspect; Stern meets her estranged husband's mistress who provides some awkward details about their affair.

Hooperman must protect an elderly man, a repeat retail theft offender, who does a TV interview claiming he could identify an armed robbery suspect. Smith has second thoughts about her relationship with Hooperman.

The Department hosts an open house for Christmas Eve and attracts a variety of interesting characters with different life stories.

Hooperman, Pritzger and McNeil stakeout a coffin robber; Stern tries to settle her divorce.

Smith tells Hooperman she intends to move out of San Francisco; Hooperman houses a snitch and his family at his apartment; Pritzger inadvertently eats evidence.

Hooperman's new boxing trainer aspires to be a police officer; McNeil is nervous about appearing on a game show.

Hooperman investigates a case of a child runaway; Hooperman fears that McNeil's eye problem may put them both at risk.

Hooperman gets unexpected news from Smith; the Department investigates a string of brutal crimes.

Hooperman is held hostage by a bickering couple; Stern overindulges on a remedy given to her by Bushkin.

Hooperman convinces Stern to involve the department in a joint organized crime investigation with a less than stellar private investigator; Smith's mother comes to visit, not knowing anything about her relationship with Hooperman.

Hooperman celebrates a birthday; Silardi's homophobic twin brother visits the station and causes plenty of tension; Smith suspects that one of the tenants murdered his mother.
